Time to come out of the closet!
I can't take it any longer! I have to confess! Please go easy on me!
It's been about two weeks now and I can't hide it any longer - I've just bought a Volvo V50 2.0 Diesel! There, I've said it now!
Having prided myself on owning Scoobs continuously for over 10 years now, including having 3 on my driveway simultaneously, for over a year, all highly modified, tuned, and remapped, by the likes of Bob Rawle and Andy Forrest, I am now down to one, plus the Volvo.
On the bright side, diesel is less than SUL, plus I don't even need to put in 50 litres to get 600 miles out of the tank. Good eh?
As I have also just started to car share, my weekly, commuting, fuel bill has gone down from £70 to about £15. Great, huh?
It's got one of those bespoke, fancy, all in one, car audio, phone, thingies, which needs a SIM card slotting into a thing in the glove box and you're away, plus the Driver info thing, with the pop up screen. LOTS of buttons too!!
Should I have posted this in the Volvo Forum? Yes, sorry, I have joined that too!!!
Does anyone want to buy any exhaust bits? Got a turbo, other bits and some NF Octane Booster that can go too?
Asif

You're dead to me...
I myself went from a scoob to a diesel, and i felt myself die a little every time i drove it. In the end sold it for uni costs. Not buying another car until i can get another scoob...
On the other hand a modern diesel like yours i would be happy with!

When I sold my Scooby, I bought a Diesel too. My fuel bill halved overnight.
Still have a Diesel as my daily drive, and keep a fun car for the weekends.
I only average about 40mpg in the Diesel, as it's a small SUV, but come the winter time I'm well chuffed as it has 4WD and the ground clearance, so I don't get stuck.
Would love a car that did 60+mpg. However they are usually tiny cars and very basic inside.

I have a 58 plate S40 SE Lux 2.0D
Brilliant car - i do 500 miles every other weekend and it never misses a beat. I cruise at 85-90 on the motorway and whatever gets in the way, the torque has me back up to that speed effortlessly.
the heater/climate controlled system is pretty awesome too.
This diesel lump does not like short journeys though. in between those driving weekends, i do 2 x 1.5 miles a day and the engine is not happy until I've done a fast 50 mile stretch.

Sold my last Scoob, an Sti PPP and bought a leon FR diesel. Have to say it has been brilliant, plenty of power , great reliability and last week I got 48mpg on a swift drive from Porthmadog down to Cardiff.
