Question DVLA and cherish plate swap? HELP

Hi all,

I sent My V5, MOT, tax disc number and insurance my dealer to put my old Plate on my new Car. So they sent it all away to the DVLA about a week ago

I've got a buyer thats put a good deposit down on my car but rightly so, wont part cash without a V5 or current MOT.

i need a rough Idea of a time scale to get my changed V5 back from the DVLA

So been told 7-10days but others have said it can take up to 6 weeks FFS

Tony

They can't do a transfer there and then ie take off one car and put on another.
They can put a plate on a car immediately if you have the retention document though.
OP its never been much more than a week for me. Be aware that to conform to the cherished transfer rules you mustn't sell your car until the replacement V5 arrives.

yeah thats right about if you sell the car with plate on.the plate will stay with the log book if you dont put it on retention or another car before,i went through the same...

im sure if you go into your local DVLA with all relevant paper and signed by both parties that they will send the new log book straight to the new keeper and send you your plate transfer, otherwise you have to send off ya paper work(log book) to take the plate off, wait till ya get that back then send it off again for new keeper..ball ache really..mine took 2 week(after doing doing it in the dvla center)..

You'll be pleased to hear that DVLA actually lost my paperwork one time ... I heard nothing for a few weeks, got in touch & they denied that I'd been there & physically handed it to them! Once I pulled out my receipt (payment) they then started to look for it, found it after 2wks then took another 2 to sort it out I'm sure you'll be fine though

TX.
