boost makes the car go faster. Have a read.

There should be a vacuum hose going from somewhere on the inlet manifold to your boost gauge - if you can see or get access to see the back of the gauge, check if there is a small hose (about 8mm in diameter and usually black or blue, but sometimes smaller and clear like mine) going to the back of it. If there is, make not of size and colour, then go open bonnet and look for the same hose coming through the firewall to the engine bay.

If you can identify it, follow it, make sure it terminates snugly on the inlet manifold and has no splits or cracks.

If there is no hose on the back of the boost gauge then it won't get a reading.

You need to get it on the road and check the gauge while your driving.
The gauge measures how much boost your making, your gauge reads in PSI by the sound of it. If your car is pretty much standard then a reading of +14 would be about right.
Get the car out, check the reading and then post your find.

well yes the turbo is what makes the 'boost'. Read the link I posted above but basically it compresses the air that goes to the inlet manifold. Compressed air = more oxygen per unit of volume (going into the cylinders, via the inlet manifold) = more fuel (able to be injected to match the bigger mass of air) = more power.

And for a support bar for the bumper, try e-bay, or awesomeimports.
