Unhappy

Took a trip down to Fareham yesterday to receive the news........
42 day ban and £285 fine for 88mph on the M27 roadworks, totally my fault. I already have 6 points for 2 speeding convictions of which 3 come off in April.

The only thing that worries me is how this will affect my insurance. I'm paying £666 (spooky i know) with Privelige, fully comp at the moment. Anyone had any experience of this, or know of 'friendly' insurance companies who don't mind convictions and mods???

Also what do I do with the car?

1) Leave it alone for 6 weeks?
2) Start it every two weeks and leave it ticking over for 10mins - will this do it more harm than good?

Damn i'm gutted

Cheers guys/girls

Iain

PS. Be careful out there!!

Sorry to hear your news, I am waiting for the dreaded letter for doing 95 in a 60 at the moment (clean license, quiet road etc).

I would keep the car if I where you, start it up once in a while.

Out of interest, you say it was roadworks, what was the limit at the time?

Cheers Mattski,

The limit was 50mph so i was a whoppin' 38mph over.

I wasn't thinking of getting rid of the car, i just wanted to know how best to store it.

I would'nt even start it as legally you may be on dodgy ground if the cops come along. Get someone else to do it.

Agree with Alas

Its like sleeping in the back of your car after a p1$$-up, as long as you've got the keys, you're technically drunk-in-charge

I was banned for 28 days (long time ago), take the hit, leave the car well alone & dig the bicycle out. It's not a long time.

Advice is to be very circumspect for the next year, as a second ban within this time could lead to an automatic 12 months off the road

I found that a BA10 (I think it was) made little difference to my insurance.

Hope you get fit

The question is did the car look good in the Vascar replay??....only joking Stuart..(in view of current e-mails)

I have just invested in Bell 550 + accessories after 92 on the M62ish. 6 points on mine now, not bad in 5 years though.
Don't be tempted to drive though....I'm sure you wouldn't......it's just not worth it.

Didn't know BMX's had batteries

Seriously, can your wife/ partner drive it for the odd trip, may be better than just 'starting it up'?

I know that if my car is left for a week or two (when on holiday) then the brakes don't always like it (unless it is garaged of course).

The Daily Telegraph Honest John books have some good tips and details on storing a car.

Iain,

Sorry to hear about your news.

ChrisB is right, Honest John gives some good tips about storing cars. He did one not so long ago (3/4 weeks ago?) regarding this. We may have it lying around somewhere, so if I find it I'll post some of the pointers on here.

Regarding the ban, think what it'll be like to drive the Scoob again after a 6 week absense .

Thanks for replies

I have a barn to store the car in, so I think i will just cover it up and leave it alone for a while. Can't wait until 2nd May!!

I don't really have anyone who can drive it (my girlfriend hasn't passed her test yet), but I suppose i can get away with starting it in the barn, cuz it's private property right?

I seem to get caught every three years, damn it! I think I might go for a radar dectector (finally decided after 11 years of driving).

Anyone have suggestions of a good radar detector, do I go for a fully fitted one or dash mounted one?

Sorry for yet another question

Given the way impreza's are depreciating I'd sell it and buy another when your ban ends.

That or find a neighboor who is insured and can drive it for you!

Cool

Iain.......

If you have a driveway or private road.....
Invite the local plod and drive up and down it all day......they can't touch you ....
there was an article some years back in one of the mags about someone with a large holding etc. who did just that....drove them nuts and he kept his sanity....
