Any of you remember my carjacking incident in my M3 in August last year? - well guess what.....its just turned up, totally unscathed, in the Sparkbrook area of Birmingham with false plates on it. Apparently Police stopped it after scanning number plate which didn't match car and they impounded it.

My Insurance company paid out ages ago so it's theirs now - but the number plate M3 DOS is still mine, and now the cars been found I can get it back on retention.

So anyone interested in making me an offer for "M3 DOS" as it won't really look right on my STi wagon!

Lizzy

Thanks Scottscooby!

Richard, apparently it will get back the plate it had before I changed it, which was N373 COP! And then it will go to salvage agents for selling. Be interesting to see what it goes for.

I wonder if the bloke who had the car realised it was stolen? And if not how much cash do you think he's lost.

Blimey I remember your thread about it being stolen. I'd love to know what has happened to it between then and now

Erm not that I know much about private plates but surely if it was stolen on the car then you could have tranferred it to another car anyways? Or wont the police/insurance let you?

dazmakinen,

Where abouts was that?

Sparkbrook / Sparkhill needs bombing IMHO! Shame the jerries didn't get that far west during the war. The place is a dog hole!

Mr M,

It was just off Broad Street by the multi-storey car parks. 8.00pm.

Think it had probably been sold on.... apparently its easy to get a fake V5 if you know right people. So assuming the buyer thought it was legit he could have spent £16K buying it, but more likely he knew it was dodgy and paid a lot less! Police can't tell me anything so its just speculation really. I was told it had C6 JCB on it when found though.

Todays Metro.

South Africa: Police have found a stolen car - 14 years after the theft was reported to them. Dorothy Barton, 80, told police in Johannesburg about her stolen VW Golf in 1988. Now it has turned up 5,000 miles away in Switzerland. Police say they have no idea how the car ended up in Europe. Mrs Barton said: 'When the officer said they found it in Switzerland, I thought he must have meant Swaziland.'

By that standard I reckon they did pretty well.

hope they didn't make her go and collect it!
Still if it had Tracker, don't they send a guard to watch over it?

P1 - the DVLA won't let you transfer it, the number becomes obsolette and cannot be used again unless the stolen vehicle is recovered

I was told I could have the plate back if the car was found or after one year if the car hadn't been recovered.
