Default Apexi v1/v2 ecu worth fitting?

Got my eye on what could be a cheap one of these with the handheld fc commander.
My car is a my93 wrx with at the moment just an exhaust, induction kit (being binned for standard airbox and panel filter) and dump valve. Nothing special but I do have plans to add a few sweeties now and then.

Main question is are these worth using and are there any pitfalls to them? The one I'm looking at is the 4 plug one same as my standard ecu.

I know it's going to need mapping to my own car but at the price it could be worth grabbing it and dropping it in once I've changed a few things.

Also are they readable for faults etc via the black and green plugs etc or do you need a reader for them?

If you can get it (and Commander too?) for less than around £500, then go for it. Is a great bit of kit (I had one on my previous WRX).

Or the other cost-effective alternative, is ESL Live (esp. the new MAFless version of it!!!) at around £550 supplied and mapped by JGM...

Had a quick think and I'm leaving it for the moment as I've a few more things that need sorting before the car gets any work done on it bar servicing etc.

So if anyone is looking for a cheap apexi ecu etc here's the fleabay link

Oh i do, that's a given.

The only problem is, then i would have no stopping point, so would have to keep going and going. I would end up going forged rebuild and be very broke, instead of just a little bit broke.

Defo going ESL this year at some point though.

I'm feeling the same way. Do I REALY need this? Was thinking about buying another car and using my existing wrx as a daily driver so I could go to town on a project.
Saying that I've been promising myself a double garage for ages as it's a pain in the **** working outside all the time (I get enough of it at work)
