Strange Acceleration - MY00
This may have been on to death so I appologies straight away, but I hope you lot can help.
My car is an Impreza Turbo MY00 with Scoobysport d-pipe, centre section and a Magnex (thanks Jawa) backbox. It also has a K&N panel filter, which has been on for 24k miles and has not been cleaned yet. As yet I have no Dawes fitted.
The problem has come to light after having a bit of fun and using alot of WOT. Since then (once warmed up) I get what I can only describe as a lull (poor spelling??) in acceleration. This occurs mostly at 3200rpm and sometimes this becomes a band between 2700-3200 and 3600-4200, generally in 4th and 5th. The best way to reproduce this is to sit in 4th at 2500rpm and push the throttle, but not to the floor. As the rev increase upto 3200, the surge in power drops (sometimes spluttery) and the noise from the exhaust quietens. Once past this point the engine picks up again and the exhaust is back on song.
One thing I've noticed is that at motorway speeds (70mph) the noise from the exhaust has increased, to which I then checked the exhaust joints. The backbox-centre is fine, however, on tick-over I can feel air/gases coming out of the d-pipe/centre section joint. Can someone let me know if this is a bad thing as it is only slight, like someone blowing on your hand.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, if relevant

Glad your happy with the brand new (second hand price
) zorst mate

Could it not be a very mild form of overboost? A full decat could cause this and might be cured with a different sized restrictor?????
Dunno really, just stoking the fire a bit for responses and BTT

Just been under the bonnet and I've noticed that I've got oil on the intercooler, where the pipe comes out on the left hand side. Not sure if it was there before, but a couple of weeks ago I did have it serviced @ 22K. Checked the oil and it rises past the two dots and into the section where the stick does the twist....is this wrong, I think so.
Anyone confirm this

yup its been slightly overfilled, this may cause contamination of the boost solenoid, which can be easily cleaned , if some one has the link to that thread they may post it, this may be the cause of ur poor running, clean the solenoid (using brake cleaner) then give it another oil change to reduce the level

Aha - of course!!!
Yes mate - now you've mentioned that defo sounds like your typical oil overfill problem. Get it back to the dealer and get them to sort including cleaning the solenoid for you - why should you have to do it when it was there fault........
