Question

Can anyone give me an idea on the average wear on tyres on a basic Impreza Turbo 4 door.

I saw an advert for one and it said "new tyres" but had only done 19,000 miles.

Comments please.

I get around 13 - 14k out of a set of fronts on my std UK MY99, though the Bridgestones that I took off last time I changed were described by the shop as "genuine racing slicks" so maybe that's an overestimate. Rears last longer. A lot depends on how you drive!

Changed two at 15k, other two stretched to 19k, am now approaching 21k and changing them this week, after sourcing the Goodyear replacments.

I got about 10,000 miles from the original ones.

I think Robertio (lurking in the Muppet Forum) only got about 4,000 miles

Looks like 14K or thereabouts for mine - I am a very careful, slow driver!! this is on the original tyres

As RichS said, I got 4.5k from the originals (no track days), now running insanely high pressures to try to see as much out of the second set as possible, hopefully will make it to a total of 8,500 miles between the two sets, 8,000 miles so far, outer edges are non existant, but the centres are still very legal.

However, I do seem to be slightly harder on tyres than average

(Now off back to lurk in the Muppet Forum )

Anything between 10&20K really, to get 19K suggest gentle(ish) use, It may have done a lot of motorway miles. i managed 17K out of mine and i recon 19k is not bad on a Turbo.

Running book pressures is not the best bet, a few psi higher IMHO gives better handling and longer tyre life.

Raising the rears to 40psi makes for very err "interesting" handling, tail happy ain't the word for it , next time i stop toeing i'll remember to drop the rear tyre pressures was fun though

A little tip - stay away from Milton Keynes better still don't live there unless you wan't to pay the price
Can't beat dual carriageway though even if it has ten roundabouts to pass through

On a 4 wheel drive vehicle it is advisable to change all 4 tyres at a time. The front tyres wear faster than the rear tyres. I would recommend that the front tyres are swapped with the rear ones every 5000 miles, to even out the wear.
