Default STI6 or STI7UK

Which is the better car? I prefer the look of the STI6, but noticed bugeye sti's are coming down in price?

Is the bugeye sti significantly better? Did they come with brembos? or Dccd?

Both has it pros and cons. It's quite difficult to say one is most definitely better than the other.

The STI6 being based on the GC chassis is much lighter and therefore has a better power to weight ratio as compared to the STI7 UK. I've never driven a STI6 before, but i believe it is more raw and gives more feedback as compared to the newage cars.

The STI7 based on the GD has a much stiffer chassis to begin with and with the Brembos and 6 speed transmission gives it more potential and a better base to start with. The STI7 UK do not have DCCD.

was thinking this myself and was in a position to buy what i wanted. Looked at and drove an sti7 and 8. Both great cars but much prefered the look and rawness of later classics such as the sti5 6 or p1. I went for a slightly modded p1 which i pick up thursday. All were within a couple of grand of each other but went for the car imho was the best looking, performing and am less likely to see another on the road.

For reliability I'd go for the bugeye every time..........virtually unbreakable engine and drivetrain, brembo's, AVCS better interior...............cheap to mod

Nostalgic people might go for the classic

It seems a lot of classic have bottom end issues. How is the bugeye engine more reliable? I like the flared arches on the bug eye.

Depends what you want from the car, the classic above 350 can be looked at as the safe limit I know some run loads more other run less but I think a common agreement is about the 380 Mark, and at this point again the gearbox will be on its limit where as said the v7 has a to be regarded as the strongest lump of the lot, a 6 speed box which can take a hammering and he brembo as standard, so if you are going to mod the v6 will need the gearbox and brakes and a possible forge build where as the v7 has the lot.

Agreed IMO the v6 looks miles better but the more i see a prodrive bugeye on 18's slightly dropped they do look good

Personal preference I recon, the more i look at them the more they grow on me and at the same price as a clean v5/6 sti or type R they are a bloody good starting point if you are aiming over 400+ as the gearbox will cost near on 3k supplied and fitted along with a used set of brembo or AP's for the classic at 1k so before you have started there's 4k to spend straight on the bugeye

With the sti 6 i'd like around 350bhp at the flywheel. Can the stock gearbox handle this? With regards to fitting brembo brakes, do they fit straight on, front and rear?

Is the STI7 type uk significantly cheaper to insure than a jdm?

P.S. Very different cars to drive, you MUST try both, if you are younger you'll love the V6, I prefer the "planted" feel of the "V7" (sorry Tony B )

I was torn between a Bug STI and a V5 STI RA with a 2.1 Stroker CDB. On one hand the Bug has the 6 speed with engine potential of 400bhp, with the V5 the engine could handle over 500bhp but the gearbox limiting potential power to 400bhp.

The Bugs were working out about £1000 more than the V5 was up for, so I decided on the Classic. The £1000 saved is halfway to a 6-Speed conversion.

Front Brembo's fit straight onto all classic (providing your wheels clear them) but the rears need a conversion kit so that the handbrake works. The RA doesn't though and the rears will fit straight on.
