Will be buying this tomorrow i hope really want the car but still got bitter memories of my last sti hawkeye only 8000 miles and useing a load of oil and smoking like mad, ringland failure the verdict was so was traded in gutted to say the least and a real load of hassle.
At the moment i'm driving around in the new focus rs and everthing's fine, but this 57 plate sti in urban grey(love this colour)only 10,000 miles and looks and drives well it also has the bonus of the stage 1 from scooby clinic defi clocks prodrive grill and front lip all nice parts, and i think for a cheap deal of £14500 this will be saving me a **** load of money over the focus.
Anyhow to the point is there anything else i can look for on a run out to try rule out any engine issue's and is the 2.5 risky has there's a lot of failure's on the new hatch and iv'e had bad luck before other than that i do want to get back in the scooby game as i love these cars,just a bit worried about dropping another bollox cheers guys for any advice.chris.

 

Not wanting to upset the apple cart mate, but if your in a new Focus RS at the moment I'd keep hold of that and go for a montune pack if you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

I love Scoobys as much as the next enthuisast does, but times move on and the new Focus RS is a superb machine.

 

I take it your having some cash your way as well in with the deal mate.

 

Yeh saving £10,000 as well but just think there a performance bargain the scoobs are alot of car for the money, but i do need to make a decision.

 

If you are going to spend that amount on the STi why not get one from a Subaru main dealer so that it comes with a 12 month warranty for piece of mind?

Dont think you could buy a 57 plate with 10,000 miles on it for £14500 from a subaru dealer and there's £3000 plus of mods as well,it is from a dealer though a skoda dealer which he's chucking a 6 month warrenty in but how good the warrenty is who knows.

 

I am picking up my sti type uk next week from a main subaru dealer,
56 plate (nov), 37k miles for £12k.

Full 12 month warranty, full service and new MOT before I pick it up.

So I am sure you could get an 07 for £14.5k if you looked and haggled hard.

Can only go of the autotrader online and thats the cheapest in the country i could find with that mileage,but really dont think a warranty helps with what concerns me my last sti had one and it ment jacksh1t when it came to useing exsessive oil consumption i,e its in subaru guidlines that the 2,5 can use up to a litre of oil in a 1000 miles.
Mine was doing 2 litres one month one litre another less another, smoking anything over 5000 revs doing nothing under this but subaru just wanted me to monitor this in the end it just all became to much and got rid that's why i'm on hear trying to get some advice before the deeds done tomorrow but cheers for the replys.

 

Try and listen for knocking shocks on the rear this is a main issue with most Hawks.

 

We are both about to become new STi 'parents' then, lets hope neither of us has a problem child.

What colour is the one you are going for?

Mine is crystal grey with gold wheels. Wasnt sure about the colour of the wheels but have decided to live with them for a while and then have another think.

The dealer quoted me £300 per wheel for new ones, or £60 per wheel to have them repainted.

p.s. I drove a couple and there was quite a difference in feel in terms of the 'hardness' of the suspension.

I'd have the Hawkeye over the FRS anyday. Urban Grey is a stunning colour.

I was at a cruise last month and there was a few mk2 RS' and they were flooring it down a "private road". One had 400bhp and it was a rocket, but when a standard one floored it down the road it didn't look that fast.
