Default Fault codes 11 and 22

Hi all

I have an my98 Terzo, completely standard.

I have just driven a 1700 mile round trip from France to Croatia.
half way back the check engine light came on very briefly then towards the end of the journey it came on for about 30 secs so I pulled over.

I was in Italy where the temerature was over 40 degrees when it happened so I figured maybe something to do with the heat, so I let it cool down for half an hour then carried on with no problems until I got close to home when it came on again and stayed on.....

I did the black plug check and it came up with 11 (Crankshaft position sensor) and 22 (knock sensor). could someone help me with what to do now?! the car ran fine the whole time no hiccups or missing so I'm hoping that this is just a duff sensor but I don't want to kill the car!!

Nowt like that happening!!
I'm hoping it's just a sensor breaking down maybe because of the heat and the first 700 miles of the trip was done in one hit!! 13hrs only stopping for fuel....
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The knock sensor is only a warning sensor and not used to run the eng, its maybe failed in the heat. were you sitting at high speed or just cruising at 70ish. its maybe picking up a wee bit of det with the heat. sorry dont know any info on start switch..Reset the ecu and try it in normal temp, if it occurs just replace knock sensor.

Cheers,

I was sat around 85 for maybe the first 5 hrs..... then it was twisty coast roads for another 4 hrs and it was pretty hot (high 30's).

on the way back I had 2 extra passengers and luggage too so there would have been a bit more strain on the engine too....

Just reset the ecu and checked the fault codes again, I got the code wrong last time....
it's actually 11 (crankshaft position sensor) and 22 (Knock sensor).

could anyone give me info on where these two sensors are and I'll change them both see if it solves the probem.....

I would imagine that the following has happened:

In the past when doing an oil change the crank sensor pickup was disconnected in order to get oil around the engine before starting it up. This is then logged and you wouldn't have known about it until the light came up and you read the codes.

The knock sensor light has been known to come on on my car when sat in traffic for hours at a time, and also when bad fuel is put in. It's likely you filled up with a slightly less good batch of fuel. You'll find the car might stutter a few times when pulling away if the light stays on but most of the time it goes off after a short while and it drives ok again.

If you reset the codes you'll probably find that neither codes come up again.

If it keeps lighting up the knock sensor code you'll find it with difficulty under the intercooler on the nearside (assuming your from the uk)
