lifted the bonnet today i could here it blowing round the left hand side off the engine this would explain lack off boost now my question is its not the backbox centre section so could it be the uppipe to the turbo or front section or the manifold any ideas because i need to replace 2001 bugeye

Common failure points would be the flex joints or flanges on the link pipe (the one running under the belt cover) and/or the up-pipe. When you say it sounds like it's on the "left", are you talking left from the driving seat, or left as you look in from in front of the engine bay?

If the latter, the likely suspect would be the up-pipe.

 

thanks when the engines running i cant here it in the car but when i pull the bonnet it seems to be on the left hand side stood in front off engine when running ive had running problems for 2 years ie boost issues never owned or driven a scoob before and had it 2 years could this be related to the boost problem

 

The original uppipe is made from two sections joined by a flexi and in time the flexi can corrode of fatigue. Because it has a heat shield it is not always easy to identify where the actual leak is but it is relatively easy to determine that it is within the uppipe setup.
You can fit a second hand uppipe and have the problem at some time in the future again or fit an aftermarket stainless steel, slip jointed DEI heat wrapped purpose designed uppipe, cost £139. £75 to fit if we do the job and because it is slip jointed you won't have a problem again, nor will you have problems with the top and bottom gaskets as happens with the solid uppipes. You will have a performance benefit to boot.
When the uppipe is leaking the turbo will be slower to spool and it will not make full boost depending on how bad the leak is.

 

thanks harvey as said having not driven a impreza before ive had the car 2 years and didnt think it was very fast spool inconsistent but coudnt here it blowing could this be the cause off this over a 2 year period

 

Yes most certainly needs looked at by someone you can rely on
