Default engine rebuild

i really didnt want my 2nd post here to be about this!

can anybody tell me roughly what i should be paying for a rebuild? how much difference in price should there be for engine in and out of car? im in derbyshire, (but dont mind travelling) is there anywhere particular i should be going for a good service/price or anywhere i should avoid?

am i allowed to post in the wanted section on here or do i have to pay for that?

the car is an R reg wrx import, what year cars could i get a replacement engine from?

I just had his experience.

Rebuild is the most ££££, another used or recon engine is a bit hit and miss from what I read on here. Some people get lucky, others have had the replacement go.

£800ish for recon engine off flea bay then having called round fitting was between £350-£500

Rebuild just cost me about £1200 in parts without labour! amazing how these things add up
Crank + bearings £550
Oil pump (worth uprating) rcm £250
Piston rings
Rod
Gaskets
Seals
Sealant
Oil
Oil filter
Replacement hoses (few of mine needed doing).

I also had to replace camshaft pulley - £130!! & pulley cover £33

Amazing how it all adds up I'm afraid.

thanks for your reply, i'll give them a ring tomorrow morning. any rough idea of the cost?

ive seen the ones on ebay and wasnt really sure if they are to be trusted or not, my car came with a 2 grand receipt for a rebuild and its done less than 10k since then!

Would not suggest a used / recon engine it's false economy in my view. Get it rebuilt by a well known ( for the right reasons) specialist such as API, scoobyclnic or a block from lateral performance. Get it fitted by the above and you won't go wrong, the only good bit about the engine going is you get to build it to the spec you want and you know it will last.

If it were me I would give David at API a call, top service and great advice he won't sell you what you don't need

Try Adam @ Autotecnica in Buxton. He built my forged 2.5 which is pushing out over 460 bhp and hasn't missed a beat since it was built 5000 miles ago.

one thing thou are you rebuilding for power or just to go standard if power you want about 4000 grand at leats that should see you safe to 400 bhp or get engine tuner to do oyu a 2.1 stroker for that sort of dollar if not then a standard new botom end drop in shoudl only be about 1700.00 and then the labour i take it yours is a 2.0
