Default strange noise

hi all, I've got a classic face lift impreza 2000 reg non turbo, sometimes after i been driving and its just idle , there is a strange noise that sounds like a pulley on its way out. its not loud but you can hear it, but the other day i thought id put my foot on the clutch and pow noise went, so i tested this again going all the way up to the top of the clutch, noise goes when pushed , comes back when lifted, so i then put my foot on the clutch but didn't push it just slightly touched it and i mean very slight touch and the noise went so what on earth could this be ? note when clutch is being pushed all way down sometimes it squeaks I've greased it to get rid of that. but any help much appreciated cheers.

when just lightly pressing the clutch you start to load the release bearing thus taking up the slack onit and stopping the noise, when they wear they get distorted and run out of alliginment when not loaded ie clutch up,but once pressed they run inline and stop making the noise, there similar to the bearing in pulleys which is why you state it sounds like a pulley on its way out, hope this helps mate
