Default Wastegate Chatter

Hi guys,

i was chatting with a mate who has a cosworth and he said i might be able to make my 94 ra chatter by removing the dv, blanking off both pipes and the small pipe from manifold.

Will it work or am i likely to damage something

Thanks

yeah a custom dv delete should create chatter and it should also be more responsive

just don't back off under high boost as the dv is there to release the pressure build up and with no release it can cause damage

The noise is usually caused by the turbine... Wastegates do make a noise, but the noise often referred to as such doesnt come from the wastegate.

I think its called compressor surge ?

On a TD05 at .8 bar will it be any better than the standard Re-circ dv ? Lag etc

Or am i better off buying a fordge re-circ

Cheers, Jon

imo just be carefull which type of turbo you surge again imo from stock turbo's vf's 30 or above & all td's will be ok as should all genuine upgrades i think it's the early vf's that cant cope with it

Correct the compressor is surging.

Surge occurs where a reversal of flow takes place accross the compressor wheel, leading to the compressor stalling. This reversal of flow happens at a point where the discharge pressure peaks to a point where the flow becomes minimal to almost zero as the compressor cannot work outside these operating curves.
The flow then reverses accross the compressor creating the noise that you are hearing. Not entirely good for the compressor

gas compressor technician offshore:

It sounds worse on gas compressors working at 135Bar discharge pressure

I wouldnt bother blocking it off, as it will sound nothing like a cossie chattering. So in a way it will be asking for trouble for not much gain.

Ive tried it on my 95 RA with a TD05 and it hardly sounds any different compared to having a Re-circ. Half throttle, youll get a small amount of chatter, on full throttle its sounds as though its just a recirc valve...... i was quite dissapointed

Although this was all on a TMIC, im sure it would sound much much better if you have a FMIC
