Default Front windows - tint

got a 2003 sti type UK
is it possible to tell if the front side windows have any tint - i.e. factory done from new? any code on windows?

having tints done on back windows and can see there is no limit for these but that there is a limit of allowing 70% light through the front side windows.

don't want to fit tints on front to allow 70% light if they already have a tint built into the glass which would then make them illegal.

any help?

Standard glass is tinted, get a white A4 sheet of paper and hold up against the outside of the glass, though the fronts are pretty much legal limit anyway.

when i had my 2003 rears tinted i was told the fronts were already on the legal limit. there is a number on the window corner that tells you the percentage of tint.
From the B pillar back you can go as dark as you like, but obviously a total black out would be pretty stupid for driving purposes

have seen plenty of people that get away with having the fronts tinted, just a matter of time really i guess, obviously the darker you go on the front the more noticeable it would be to plod!!

during run to the sun i have seen young kids pulling off their front tints whilst parked next to a cop car..................

dont go for limo black on the black otherwise the gradient will be too different between front and rear, meaning it will look gash :O)

I went for a light front medium rears. The fronts look like standard to be honest. I done the slight fade between the two for better looks, didnt really like the limo rears and lights fronts. The subtle look for me.

Yep thats what my research has shown, as long as they can see the driver pretty clearly they are ok with it, seen a lot darker tints on the fronts than mine, now that is silly.

They do look nice, been thinking of getting this done to my MY09. Is it an easy DIY job, or is it best left to the pro's?

Prob can be done yourself, but at £25 per window £50 for the rear its worth leaving it to the pros, they can do it much faster and now all the tricks to get it looking right, which is the main thing with tints.

i would not try personally. have you ever driven behind a car that has the tints coming away on the rears? you can bet they done them themselves. plus most of these places dont have a problem sorting anything out that may arise free of charge as they usually get their business from word of mouth.
