Dawes Devices AFR meter
Hello from Colorado. Darren Dawes suggested I ask here if anyone has experience hooking up his afr meter to the subaru o2 sensor that reads in the 0-,9v range. On the '02 WRX US model the speculation is that the o2 sensor may be too far aft in the system to be accurate and that reading to only .9v may not be enough. Any expreience here would be much appreciated by us both. Thank you, jfwilfley@aol.com
I'm not sure if I understood your post but hopefully this *may* help:
1. The Lambda (o2) sensor in the mid section is not used for fueling - it's there to detect if the cats are working.
2. The Lambda sensor in the Downpipe is the one used for fueling and AFAIK, is the same as the <MY01. The useful output range for this sensor is 0.7 - 0.9v. I think that the Dawes AFR meter reads this range so all you should have to do is connect it to the Front Lambda wire feed (at the ECU is my prefered point) and that's pretty much it.
(this is all based on the MY01 Lambda output being the same as the MY00)

The MY01 front sensor is wideband and incompatible with the Dawes meter. The I-club guys find the read sensor works reasonably well with a short delay in the results. Look for 830mV, 850mV and 870mV at 5-10, 10-15, and 15+ PSI respectively over 3000RPM. It also gets richer up the rev range. Most cars are about 20mV higher (richer) than this.
Thing is though John, looking at the STi 7 trace from the EcuTek site, from 3000rpm up, that car (with PE exhaust) is running 0.95v which has gotta be too rich. It seems to me that the rear sensor is similar but not the same to the MY00 front sensor? (on my run with just a PPP BB (so still really rich), the most I got was 0.91v.
What do you think?
