Unhappy OMG!!!! Overheating...what could it be now!!

Having lost the car for 5 weeks, in dealers for headgasket under warranty because of overheating, i finally picked it up on friday all seemed ok, no serious blasts just less than 150 miles normal driving..... just been on a 2 mile trip to the shops AND ITS STARTING TO OVERHEAT AGAIN the gauge was slowly getting upto the 3/4 mark.

what the hell could be wrong now? dealer said they had checked the pump and thermostat before stripping the engine, so i assume they are ok, i suppose the 'technician' managed to get an air blockage in the system??

getting a bit peed off now

ideas? before i ring the dealer tomorrow

steve

BTW Hawkeye sti

and the warranty lapsed a couple of weeks ago, i hope the work is still under some sort of guarantee??

I'd try running the coolant out and then try refilling by the "correct method". They may have introduced an airlock when they did it.

Use the search facility - many threads/posts on this method.

Let us know how you get on...

Try taking the rad cap off. If no coolant is spilt then the rad has an airlock.
GENTLY undo the header tank cap while the rad cap is off to push the airlock out and fill the rad, you'll need to quickly put the rad cap back on when the rad fill spout level rises.
If there's not enough coolant in the header tank then add some more directly into the rad.

If the expansion tank is full to brim then call Subaru Assist and get the car taken back + courtesy car.

just given them thier courtesy car back, a bloody 1.5 hyundai accent

i will ring the dealer first thing tomorrow, you would think after 5 weeks they would have sorted it having said that when i picked the car up the service manager says 'by the way our technician has noticed that your tyres need changing bla bla bla' they are new and only done about 800 miles WTF !

just checked, rad is full and the header tank is about half full? hardly anything in the expansion bottle

This seems to be, becoming more common on the 2.5 Hawkeye. Mate dont mess with it yourself, take it straight back to them, if they suspect you have been messing with it, they wont do a thing for you. Good luck.

**Update**

phoned dealer this morning and they asked me to top-up the header tank and monitor it over the next few days just in case it was an air block, if it happens again i will have to take it back

this is doin my head in now as i am scared to drive the car

for anyone in the chester area, i have found a subaru specialist at the end of sealand road (by garden city) that is authorised to do warranty work (so they say ) and do full geometry set-ups as well

its hard to tell as i have only done 150 or so since the car was picked up on friday, symptoms i had was that i was using loads of water having to top up the rad/header tank every 50-60 miles.

could the gasket/s have gone again after just 150 miles?

water seems clean and orange in colour (antifreeze) used to have big clouds of with smoke first thing in the morning not done that since i got the car back.

I can see me getting a speed ticket at this rate (spend most of the time watching the temp gauge an not the speedo )

i will be watching like a hawk(eye) over the next couple of days

PHONED THE DEALER AGAIN

Now told 'by the technician' that any air lock could take a coule of days to rectify its self and to keep topping up as reqired over the next couple of days

SURELY the technician should have filled/bled the system properly in the first place

anyway we will see

the saga continues...........................
