water pump question
It's NOT common for the water pump to fail. It's just a simple shaft with an impeller on the end, and a wheel on the other which gets drive from the cambelt. I suppose the bearing/s could wear and but it should still spin.
When my HG went, I fitted a new stat and pump first (to test to see if it WASN'T the HG) and the old pump was totally fine... and that was the original 16yo one at the time! (Still got it as it happens lol).
Someone did suffer a broken pump - the impeller had broken off the shaft!

the reason im thinking pump is because on tick over car will over heat but take revs to 2000rpm and above and its fine also doesnt seem to be losing water.
its even fine driving about but as soon as revs drop temp goes up

taken thermostat out still the same just takes a little longer to overheat also in car heater not working now with no stat in, im still thinking pump because its engine speed related not enough force created by pump on tick over
