How much does one of these side protector strip cost?

Anyone got a picture of it on a Silver MY99 Impreza?

Finally is it easy to put on?

I haven't put mine on yet as the stick stuff doesn't feel sticky enough! But looks relatively easy.

I think there is a silver scoob in the gallery section that has it.

 

The sticky stuff is deceptively sticky, let me assure you. Once its on, it will grip like buggery.

I used some trim tape from Halfords, too.

Run a strip of trim tape down the centre of the strip, and expose the sticky from the trim tape - this will hold the strip in place while you take the backing off the white ones that come on it as standard. Before you put it on the car, just pull a pit of the orange backing off a bit so its exposed down from the strip once its flush with the doors. You can now slide out the orange backing and the strip will be well-stuck.

Seriously, get it right first time, or you'll have a nightmare.

Does the Halfords trim tape flush mount with the orange bits? How long ago did you buy this as I'll need to see if they still stock it.

 

I took some time to mark out the upper line where I wanted it to sit (I used some tape to do this). I then peeled back the orange tape a bit at a time, lined it up, peeled back a bit more etc and just moved the whole way along til I was finished.

One word of caution: make sure you pay attention to how far along you position the door strips, as they can chafe on the panel or the adjacent strip if you're not careful, which could lead to the edge of the strip being pulled off over a period of time. The first side that I did was fine but the second set were slightly longer and I ended up having to trim a little off the end of one so that it wouldn't catch when the door was opened.

I did mine about a month ago.

 

Mine have been on since the first month, dont really notice them now but then again ive got no dents either
They look funny to start with but grow on you saves the hassle but i got my dealer to put them on for me so no probs there (except the fitting of! an extra 45 quid! )

If your "sticky stuff" doesn't seem "sticky" try warming it up with a hairdryer before applying

 

Also if you **** up, just re-heat your sticky stuff with a hair dryer, peel back the strip and repostion - the original adhesive will still work fine.

 

Like this? Fitted by dealer from new, 18 months ago. One section on front wing did start to come off within a week, replaced by dealer and no problems since then:

Thanks for all the replys, I will have the strips done next week. At least it will save my doors from any dents.

 

i just have the factory ding strips and i can't tell you how many flat spots are in them that would normally be dings...it seems that people no longer care about anyone else's car except their own. I hate dings and anything that can be used to help protect against them i am all for. I also hate cracked headlights/lenses so i used the 3M adhesive protectors and have been one of the few RS's in the area that survived winter w/o a rock hole in a foglamp or headlight.

Has anyone got them colour coded on their car, if so picture please.

would it look better if it was colour coded?

 

I've been advised that the compound of the strips are too soft, and that if they are colour coded - the paint would chip off quite easy.

Worth checking with a body shop.....

 

does anyone know who sells them apart from dealers as i got a import. thanx

I had the strips shown on the silver scoob fitted by my dealer last year. I was really sceptical when I collected the car as they looked like they would fall off if I so much as touched them with a damp sponge. However the dealer said they would not and he has been proved correct.

i was told the same, that the paint would chip off when it flexed so had the strips in black. i understand some on the bbs have had them colour coded.
pays ya money and takes your choice.
As a ding preventer they are bery good.
