Default classic weight saving ideas

iv done a search but its got all the usual stuff in..looking for maybe a bit more 'out of the box' ways to save weight without loosing all the seats.

done

jack
spare
piece of wood from boot
alloy bonnet
cf mirrors

have i missed any other dead weight? how much do standard seats weigh? i may replace them with lighter fixed buckets. how much does all the sound deadening crap weigh under your seats & in the foot etc is it about 40lbs? is it worth removing?

Wife, kids, 1x kidney, a good $h!t, no socks and pants Unless you're a professional racing outfit chasing the last hundredths of a second on track, there really is no point.

FWIW, seats are usually around 25kg, so a set of carbon buckets at maybe 5kg are a worthwhile saving. I suppose you've already considered getting a lightweight battery, and relocating it to the boot ?

seats are 25kg? fixed lightweight buckets will be worthwhile then

Lightweight alloy wheels, lose the electric motors out of the doors (central locking etc) but as said, unless your a race team, its not worth it as you wont notice any on road difference as a race team will strip the car to the shell.

change of suspension makes a difference. struts and spring of each corner are quite weightly. i put AST coilovers in mine. they are really light compared to the OEM suspension. car handles alot better to

tony, i have only stripped mine partially for this year and i reckon with the aircon, electric windows, central locking ,door cards, frames, glass, suspension and removal of seats front and rear, half the sound deadening crap in the car, i have saved about 100KG. thats quite a lot for a car that is only 1240kg to start with. i appeciate it's not really a family car now but still has to pass muster at MOT time in Northern Ireland (not like the poncy MOT on the mainland)

Just removed the spare wheel, jack, aircon and a few braces from under the bonnet (possibly 50kg all in all) and the car feels very light when pulling out of the garage etc, you let the clutch out and it's off! Can't feel much difference on boost though.

Ordered some recaros that weigh 6kg each so that will save another 28kg. All in all a 12 stone saving. My gf weighs 10 stone and the car is a totally different experience if she's in or out. ...or both.

Definately worth doing and will pay for itself through fuel saving, pad wear etc. It's also power that you can lose. 300bhp could be 275bhp on a hot day around the track, especially with a tmic, same car with 100kg removed would technically restore that 25bhp.

Not carrying 3 other people would make more of a difference than any bits you take off the car !

Whats the point?

In my view its either a road car or toy.

IMHO if its a toy you may as well strip it fully, mine is and is down to 1220kg with half a tank of fuel. Plus there is still an easy 60kg to come out with the fitment of bucket seats, strip the doors including door bars leccy motors etc and remove the aircon.

If you use it as primary road transport and ferry mates around dont bother its not worth the expense of ill fitting lightweight parts for no real world gain
