Default Speedo clocks illumination not bright

It has ocurred to me how pants the illumination of my instrument cluster really is (MY00) .

I know some people use LED's, with mixed results, but that is because they are so set on changing the display colour. I just want mine standard green, but to actually be able to see they are illuminated.

Any suggestions?

When I took mine apart to replace ONE bulb that had stopped working, I noticed that all the others were blued over, so would have been dimmer.

I decided to change them ALL at the same time to avoid the job of taking the dash apart again.

About one year later, I have another one gone

Well that pee'd me off!

Ordered 6 x w5w/501 green leds as that is what I was told is needed for my dash illumination, MY99

And only the fuel side is that fitment! There are another 3 or 4 that light up the dials that are a lot smaller, unsure of the fitment, going to Google it now, but not impressed...

Turns out they are 286 fitment so hope these are as good as the 501 bulb as that's looking great - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=170729023740

The 99 clocks must be different to mine: the 98 ones are ALL 501 bulbs, with only the warning lights being smaller.

So to sum up.You need 2 501s and 4 286s for 99-00 classic for speedo?

What about the rest of the dash?

Just the 501 bulb is too bright, the 286 are great in the dash but not very good for the heater controls
