Red face

I'm thinking about buying a WRX but i've heard that some cars get nicked in Japan and shipped over here. Is there any way of finding out the history of the car before it left Japan? I've tried DVLA but they suggested calling the Japanese Embassy. I don't really want to go that far so is there an easier way.
Thanks - Matt

UK Subaru dealers are allowed to check a car to see if its been stolen in Japan. Not allowed to fix them, only to do the check. I think you have a pay a fee as well ie the labour for the mechanic.
