Question

What things should I look out for when buying a Subaru Impreza Turbo. I have seen a local car for sale (Private), it has done about 30k, got PPP, full FSSH, etc.

I could have the RAC check, but then it means I cannot afford the car. Thank u for ur help.

To be honest if you can't afford an RAC check then don't go for the car. They can cost a bomb to run.
Just my humble opinion, not a dig at all.

The cars themselves are pretty reliable despite the stories you see on here.

I echo chuck's comments. Do not underestimate the cost of running one. First off, insurance on a PPP'd car will be more than a standard turbo. If you've less than a perfect insurance risk (ie, you're old, you've got a clean license and a perfect driving record) then that might surprise you. IIRC you had a R5 turbo before? The running costs are a mile apart. Just be wary of that before you commit your heart on a car - do the research first.

Regarding the car itself, check it's straight in the usual ways. and the RAC inspection may pay for itself?

Nick.

Running won't be a real problem, I did have a R5 Turbo and the amount of money I poured into the car was unbelievable. My dad is paying for the Scooby and he has given me a set budget. Once I get it I will have to fork out the insurance, petrol etc.

The owner is going to have it serviced by subaru dealers before he sells it, going in for the 30k service.

You could get soemone like Roger Clark ( I maybe worng but arent they close to you) to pay for a bit of labour for a mechanic to have a quick look round it. May only cost you a 50 quid and maybe worth it. Just a thought and obviously dont know if this is possible with current owner/Roger Clark ??

cheers

Thumbs up

If its going for a 30K service then thats a pretty big and expensive one and they check/change a lot of stuff (motor trade technical term ).

Hopefully everything should go OK, I am taking my uncle who knows what he's doing under the bonnet. I might have the RAC check done, just to be on the safe side.

Don't forget to do an HPI (or similar) check.
