I may have to move on from the scoob for one reason or another soon, and plan to own one again. What's out there for 10k or less which will compare?
I know the VR6 corrado is 2wd but its solid and tuneable (nitrous!?). Celica is 250bhp out the box and 4wd. Any downsides to these beasts..?
I do like Pulsar's but they're a bit too "Rude Boy" for me! Honda VTEC's are a no no too.
Comments appreciated, esp from owners,

Try to imagine an MR2 Turbo, with its engine mounted at the front, 4 seats and 4WD, and you have a GT4.
GT4 and the MR2 both use the 3SGTE!
Corrado VR6 has a nice powerband though!
Good Luck

Hello mate, I drive a VR6 and to be honest after driving a scoob.....they dont compare, a different league.
That to say, for anything other than "performance and handling" the VR6 is a much nicer place to be, cumfy, effortless to drive etc...
What are you looking for in your replacement ?
Phill

I've got a Corrado VR6 and for the money you are talking, you can a top one (pay about 8/9k for a top spec or Storm). Don't really need to mod it as they're quick as standard. Not as quick as a scooby up to 70 or so, but above that the VR6 is quicker. FWD of course, but just about the best fwd there is. It will also hold value quite well. If you're really into modding, then consider the Corrado G60 (£5/6k) which can be tuned quite a lot, but the VR6 is the better model.
Let me know if you want more info on the car, else got to www.corrado-uk.co.uk for more info on the car.

Not sure really Phil,
I think there is a lot to be said for comfort and a solid car. Sometimes the scoob is a bit rattly and crap inside, no noise damping etc.. God I sound old at 23! The GT4 sounds good as 1) its a toyota and 2) its 250 bhp out the box with 4wd. Also has the rally heritage too.
I want something capable of punishing i guess!
Think I would be gutted at the power loss of other cars...
Rich - Why, what you getting next?! 22B on the way?! Suppose i just fancy a change and not lay out too much for a replacement. Probably only get 7k for mine.
WRX, are they as reliable as other Toyota's?
Confused now...

All things said Toyotas are fairly bullet proof.
I had a faulty radiator cap on a GT4. Ran the engine dry a few times. Even ran it bone dry driving up a mountain.
Never missed a beat.
The only weakness I found was the synchro on 3rd gear. But that was 75,000 abusive miles. And you could double declutch easily anyway.
Nicer looking than the Scoob IMHO (ST205).
The ST185's are under powered for their weight and are like barges to drive at one and a half tonne.

MB,
If you want to ask any question obout the GT4 email me offline just incase I rile the scooby owners. I have owned mine for 8 months but can get any answers that phase me from the GT4OC.
As for insurance - personally me 25yrs old 4 yrs no claims and good post code area. It cost £700 for me and my 22year old girlfriend she had only 1 years no claims. A scooby worth the same money would have cost £1400 I did a lot of shopping around.
Cheers

Go for the Corrado VR6 - I had one for three years - fantastic powerband, totally effortless, surprisingly economical. And the best FWD chassis around.

If you are looking at something different to tune, then VR6 ' s hold alot of prospect's.
Around £4k will see, a 4WD conversion and 360Bhp no prob's, more if you want it. The basic engine block is good for 500K + and is basically from what i understand to be an Audi Quattro 2.8 / 2.9 V6. Lot's of torque 5th @ 30 = 1400 rpm and no complaints, heated leather air con, all the toy's etc....
But after a scoob i might go for the Toyota, VR6's are very nice but more of a Grand Toureras opposed to rally rep !!
Good luck and enjoy !!

Another one to throw into the hat is the Porsche 944 Turbo, you could get a well looked after 250bhp version for £10k.
