Newer Scooby - Less Power

Just secured myself a W reg Imprezza, 16K on the clock. Only thing is, it doesn't seem to have the power of my old Imprezza. When you floor it, it just doesn't respond in the same way. The older model was a '97 and had 50K on the clock. Any thoughts as to what the differnce might be?

They are 2 very different cars to be honest. My first Impreza was new in Aug 1997 (MY98) - and was very quick - timed at 5.2 sec 0-60 in stnd form. Then I traded it in for a new one in Nov 1999 (MY00) and it was definitely slower. I then found out that the size of Turbo had been reduced from 99 onwards. This explained the lack of mid range, although i did find the turbo spooled up a bit quicker (as it should). I never timed it but cannot believe is was close to the old one.
Ultimately it was disappointing and sold it a year later having wished I had kept the old one. I think the newer cars take mods well and with the PPP are excellent - i just preferred to buy an Sti instead !!

Very interesting, and thanks for the feedback, so its not my imagination then.
Second question is what do you reckon I could do to the W reg. which doesn't involve chipping? or for that matter selling it, can't stand the thought of looking for another car just yet!

If you have a search in I think it was drivetrain, there have been a fair few threads on this. In summary the easiest solution was to source a second hand ECU from a MY99 and just swap it for the standard one. If you are happy to mildly modify the car, then look at the threads on a Dawes device (it allows you to control the boost, hence bring it in earlier, and peak a bit higher)
