Thumbs up diesel scooby !

popped into stan palmers in carlisle for oil change for wife's forester and got handed keys for diesel courtesy car-very impressive very quiet for a diesel pulls well in midrange up backroads up to healthy speeds and feels pretty planted.ian was telling me rear suspension is actually better than wrx hence handling-very tempted for next practical car esp the one in wr blue mmm

Diesel, 'twas/is the future ?

discuss....

dunx

P.S. I have a couple of mates with re-mapped VAG diesels and they are a stunning mixture of fun/frustration (FWD) but can still manage 58 mpg on a quiet day.

ian reckoned 41mpg at a steady 9*mph so 500+miles per tank, need to find some performance figures lol

It's the torque at almost tickover that makes them so nice to drive whilst "asleep" IYSWIM, I provoked way too much wheelspin when I tried them !

dunx

P.S. Not the Scooby, I haven't tried that one... yet !

And for a moment there I thought I was the only odd ball interested in the diesel......

I'm interested to hear details of when a new "Hot" sti diesel imprezza can be bought. I really like the imprezza I drove, but just found it a little slow compared to a VAG equivalent, and am not sure how tunable/reliable after a tuning it would be compared to VAG cars.

For me it would be a given that whatever I buy next will get a re-map, and then maybe some more!
A friend of mine own chippedire.com so my caddy's done, my dads octavia, my GF's bmw 120d, and pretty well anythin we've owned over the last 5 years!

I'm gona drop the van an go for 4 seats for a while, and was thinking A3/A4 or 320/330d or new imprezza.
If i got an (A3-A4 quattro/320d i'd more than likely go with a big turbo, and all of these can manage 260-270 bhp safely with a little work.

So the question for me lies in, would a scooby engine still be reliable if I was to go down that route....

i have heard it is reliable up to 200bhp-due to dual mass flywheel limited bhp unfortunately

I suppose thats why im more interested in the "STI diesel" as it may be built a bit stronger, or it could just be a re-mapped 150 with sti look-a-like gear stuck onto it.
If its stronger than the 150, then it may have the capability of being made as hot as a VAG car. (which almost all have dual mass flywheel)

Either way, its really impressive spec for a great value standard new car! (20k on the road in ireland!)
For that your lookin at a 06 A3 or A4 2.0tdi quattro s-line. Or 06 320d.

Yes,
Time and other tuners experimentation will tell

Afraid I can't afford to be the one that finds out they arent strong enough for big turbos myself!

I was looking at Impreza diesel this weekend, looks like the WRX and I must admit that the new shape is growing on me abit....

I changed my Impreza Wagon for a Legacy Diesel sports tourer recently and have been investigating remap possibilties. Superchips list one on their website Superchips - Superchips optimise the performance of your car, helping to maximise your driving pleasure. which increases BHP to 176 and Torque to 339 Nm, hopefully other tuners will follow suit.

There are a few crowds in the UK doing them too.
Rs tuning being one
:: RS Tuning Ltd, Dyno Dynamics Rolling Road ::

They also have an RR so you can get a print out before and after.

I've since started to consider a 03 wrx sti, damn the poor fuel economy, those things are just the business!

Then in a year or so when i can't justify 20-25mpg I'll go to the diesel again

Great buy!

I've had a diesel Forester since november last year, and it is the BEST buy I have ever made!

Goes well for the mass it has to haul, good mpg, and very very comfy!

They are still not selling the WRX here yet, because of some tax bollox, but it should be out and about soonish.
