When was it installed, before or after the car was bought?

 

I am happy with mine. It was installed from new. Why do you ask, are you having problems?

 

The components in the PPP are pretty good, but expensive for what they are. A custom remap will net you greater gains in performance and drivability than a PPP will (as the PPP map still has very large safety margins - it runs very rich). If you already have a car with a PPP fitted, drop in a high flow panel filter, some colder plugs and get it remapped by a good mapper and you will be amazed at the improvement (in performance and fuel economy).

Jolly Green Monster, Zen or Mocom are probably your best bets based on your location.

 

Is that something you've done? My car is soon out of warranty and I'm thinking of modding as oposed to changing to a new car. I don't want to go mad or spend a fortune so I'd be interested.

I took out a Hawkeye STI PPP the other day and it was much slower than mine. It's very hit and miss so you're far better off going down the personal remap route. The only thing you lose is the warranty.

05 UK STi with PPP. I fitted an uprated STi panel filter, PRF7B spark plugs, 3-port boost solenoid and with a Bob Rawle remap made 354bhp and 348ft.lb running 1.5 bar. Definitely worth the cash - a much nicer car to drive (how they should have come from the factory IMO).

Watch out though, once that modding bug has bitten

 

Bought a standard MY03 STi 4 years ago, ran this for a year and then went for the PPP upgrade and noticed the difference big style. The car packs more punch and also pushes you back in the seat when the turbo comes in. From what I have read from others it can be hit or miss, but I think this maybe down to the car you have and not having a dyno and remap to get the most out of it.

My MY99 UK Turbo was much better with PPP fitted

Installed about a year after purchase. Managed 13.5 1/4.

It was even better as the kit cost nearly 1/2 the official amount at the time

 

I didnt know you could have the PPP fitted aftermarket so to speak what is the cost nowdays would it be worth fitting to an 05 car with 30Kmiles what sort of bhp increase would you expect at the mo my car is pretty stock with induction Kit, Dump valve, and WPsport back box what would be the next biggest bang per buck modification to be made

Bought my 03sti new and ran it std for 10Months, I got ppp fitted for me birthday and the differance was night and day. Far far better car in all situations
As said above it should of been like that as std.
Nearly 5 years later and it's still a great drive.

It has to be better than stock - From what I gather and I am by no means an expert but have been reading up loads, you are best off getting a remap and a few other gubbins done (see my thread Sti version 8 info) in this section.

 

yes without a doubt i got a sti standard and got a remap at scooby world with j. g. m. now running 333 bhp beats my mates pro drive no probs but to be fair he rolling roaded it at scooby clinic and it only hit 291 bhp i think these pro drive remaps r very hit and miss

The PPP pack is a good piece of kit but it's most likely cheaper to do a custom aftermarket upgrade, certainly with the map more tailored to your car individually and overall power from a custom upgrade with.

I had the ppp kit on my 03 wrx 9 months after i had it and only reached 245 bhp on the rollers ,two years on and two remaps later she's on 356.9 bhp and very pleased with it .

 

Ok think im getting the gist of this now and not wishing to sound stupid as im new to the world of Scooby would my car benifit from a remap if so, who locally to Romford Essex is the trusted re-mapper of choice and whats the rough cost of such a task ??

 

Jollygreen monster wouldnt be too far from you but if you speak to Bob Rawle or Andy Forrest (google them or search on here) they will do it where you are and by all accounts its a very good day out with them!

You'll only gain if you change your exhaust system to a full decat or sports cat. You may also need a new fuel pump (Walbro) if you want a safe amount of power but they'll only map what your car can handle.

Give them a shout and they will advise you. it'll cost about 650 for the remap and probably the same for the exhaust system. You'll have a much smoother car and obviously much more power.

PPP is for cars under warranty in my opinion, you're paying for the security of knowing that if it all goes bang then it's covered.

If you're outside your waranty period then go down the remap route, you'll get more bang for your buck.

My first Impreza that I brought new didn't have PPP fitted until it was about 3 months old and it was a major transformation in both power and sound.

Don't forget that the STi PPP cost includes de-cat downpipe, fuel pump and mapped ecu swap, backbox, labour, covers any warranty issues and includes Prodrive's development costs. Pretty good value and peace of mind I think.

Aftermarket remaps will yield more power as they don't need to build in such big noise, safety and emission margins.
