Default Mrs made redundant today

My wife was made redundant today after working with BT for years. Not only has this messed up our plans for going to New York this christmas but it means I may have to seriously consider selling my 05sti which i bought less than a month ago! It's gonna be very hard to run the household on one income and if she can't get a job soon then it looks like my weekend toy will be the first thing to go. I waited ages for a car of this spec, colour and quality and as soon as i find and buy it, i may have to part with it. I just don't have the heart to do a write up of the car starting with the words "for sale".

It's going to be a **** christmas

Don't panic! I assume she got a payoff? Don't do anything as a "kneejerk reaction" until you really have to.
In an emergency, lay -up the car, declare off road and talk to insurance Co for a bare minimum cover.

Unlucky mate, My Aunty works high up for BT and has been working there for nearly the same amount of years but has been aware of the redundancies for a while now and has luckily prepared for it and she will be getting a pretty large payout for it too...

Not all doom and gloom mate, like above Tescos will take people on over xmas and the january period as its so busy, by then she will be able to find a more suitable job

Good luck with it though mate

Default me too

Just had the same thing done to me this week... Merry F**kin Christmas eh?

thankfully got another wage from the mrs, but that wont keep us afloat forever. Not ready for the autotrader just yet, but a serious rethink about my future choice of car I think, never been left so short so quickly.

anyway, best of luck to you and yours, fingers crossed the economy bails us out next year...

Default Always look on the bright side of life....

If you are healthy, then cars aren't THAT important, just bite the bullet and ride-out the coming storm.

Sorry no decent advice.... as I work for the local council, and I'm indispensible (?)

Sorry to read about your situation. JohnD is right in that don't react without thinking things through. This credit crunch is really getting a grip on the UK - hopefully it will improve in 2009. Hang in there fella - hope it all works out in the end!

Great news, Mrs managed to get an interview with Direct Line this Thursday, bit of a change from I.T. Contracting but hey anything will do at the momment. Thanks for all your kind words guys fills me with some hope. Dunx your right I still have my health and I know there are a lot of people in much worse situations, like you said after all it's just a car.

Glad you are sorted. Do you get to keep the Scoob now?

Know how you felt. Worked for the same company for 11 years. In November was told that I could reapply for my job with a £7k pay cut, or they would donate enough money to my coffers to pay off my mortgage. Guess which option I took?

Was ****ting myself but as it turned out I started my new job last week, on similar money BUT WITHOUT A MORTGAGE PMSL,PMSL,PMSL,PMSL

Many thanks to my old bosses , and my new ones as I don't have to work nightshift anymore.

Sometimes the silver lining is bigger than the cloud, just luck I suppose. Hope it holds

Gutted for you mate!!!!

Happened to me last year me and my missus lost our jobs in the same week, and I had to part with my Evo 6 RSX which was my favourite car and being rare I realised I was never going to find one in the same condition/spec again, but the mortgage payments where more important, and I had to sell the car, A year on and we both have better jobs with more money, and im glad that we had the change, even though its scary at first, it soughted it self out in the end!!!!! and Ive even managed to squeeze in a couple of nice cars in since then!!!!!

Yeah I'm deff keeping the car, I really thought I would have to get rid. I own another car which i use as my work horse (vw bora tdi) and an old classic mk1 gti so being able to justify keeping the scooby too might have been a little too hard. However I'm holding on and things should be ok fingers X. She's applying elsehwere too however the I.T. sector is not very accomodating at this momment in time.
