A Versus thread - STI vs F355
I apologise now for starting a Vs thread especially as its against a Ferrari or indeed a mid RWD Vs a front 4WD.
Anyway, I know someone who is thinking of getting an 355. I have another friend who does have a 348 but he doesn't count because in the 3 years I've known him its been used once.
Mr 355 was very critical of my old Impreza and he felt that nothing could touch him in his E36 M3. Now he is moving up to "supercar" territory and I am hoping to to back to another "Jap crap" Impreza.
Now, on the pant wetting front, the 355 wins no contest (the only bloke to know the difference between an STI RA and a 1.6GL is another bloke = FAIL)
So 355 Vs either a V3/4 STI RA or V5/6 Type R. Which would win over a A or B real world roads. Assuming both good drivers and I don't put the scoob through a hedge.

From my experience of ferraris he would need to be the stig to leave a 350bhp v3 type r on a B road and even then it wouldn't be by much if at all
Now because of the short ratio's on the box of the scoob it may well get away on long straight streches of A roads.
Best bet is to make sure the A road is wet

355 vs a type R and the impreza will lose if its standard or even just mildy modded

one of my friends has a 355 and running circa 280bhp I couldn't really keep up with him in a straight line after the initial launch. I could catch him in the twisties (sorry!), without too much problem. Now running 360bhp or so my wagon owns the posh Fiat
Hope that helps

One of the boys in his 320bhp p1 recently had a dabble with a mate of mine in his ferrari 360 f1 spider, they were pretty evenly matched until they got to the m4 when the p1 hit 145mph the ferrari pulled away.
I've driven a 355 before and I was shocked at how little torque there seemed to be. I had to thrash it up to about 7000rpm before I noticed good acceleration. The suspension is designed for race tracks and not bumpy B roads so I'd put my money on an STI RA or Type R

Dan, my friends 355 makes me giggle like a five year old every time I'm in, even before he starts the engine...and once you have that lovely V8 wailing a few inches behind your head the grin only gets bigger. Also, almost without exception every single female checks out the driver, which is fun for me in his left hooker

As an event a drive in the 355 wins every single time, either as passenger or driver...the only problem is that it is very difficult to press on in. It's not a huge car but its still very wide, very low and very, very conspicuous...it's a fabulous car but in this country its more show than go imo

i had a blast against a 360 modena a few weeks back now, it was on a b rd nice and twistie and you could see a good half a mile in front at all times which made it a bit easier to go through the corners.
i'm not saying i'm a good/bad driver or that he was either, but i didn't do too bad
Only when i ended up behind another car before a hill did he manage to get close to me, but thats when the "i have to prove my 360 is faster at all costs" moment and he decided to overtake both me and the car in front and thats when i called it a day. It was fun up till then and dare i say on here harmless as the speeds rarely got anywhere near silly till that point!
But tell you what it did sound nice when it went past!

Drove a F355 a few years ago and as someone has already said you can feel the lack of torque it has, but the soundtrack when it screaming up the rev range is much better then any scooby burble, brakes where noticably better then anything I have driven and it handled superb. Dont forget these cars are nearly 12 years old so performance is not breathtaking, but its not slow either.
Only problem I had was it was left hand drive and I was having problems changing gear, not nice hearing a 100k cars gearbox crunching!!!!

Bought my dad that for fathers day, if its the one I went to there is a big airfield so you can get the car upto speed, They have a 911 GT3 a scooby sti and a Evo 7 RS last time I was there. bring some extra cash and get to drive one of the other cars also, as its cheaper when you are there.
