Default What is considered as 'normal' oil temperature and pressure?

Hi,
I have just had a set of Defi oil temperature and pressure senders fitted in the OE locations (above cylinder #3 and below the alternator).
What is considered as normal oil temperature and pressure?
The temperature is around 98C and pressure 6.30 bar when cruising at 80-85 mph. I am using recommended oil Shell 5W-30 fully synthetic.
Cheers

both those sets of figures are about right although 98deg in the cold weather at normal driving is a bit high i would say.....been out in mine today and my defis read no more than 90 deg...even on the motorway at 70mph.

Still ok tho .....what does it read when giving it beans coz scoobies hate hot oil as i just found out!!!!!!

90 to 100 degrees oil temp, not given any "beans" as it's waiting for a re-re-map.

Oil temp is 80-90, doesn't seem to vary much no matter what.

Oil pressure is 7 bar cold idle, 2 bar hot idle, 6 bar running at sped.

Defis on a 98 UK car mapped to around 300bhp

Pressure:- 8.5 bar when cold (goes to 10 bar when i blip the throttle)

Settles at 7 bar with the engine at operating temp
(Engine is a new build)

Not sure about temp. as I have water temp gauge but not oil temp. gauge. Water temp is 190 F normally, fan cuts in at 208 F.

I've just fitted STRI Digital stepper motor gauges (oil press, water temp + boost) Bought them from Fast WRX in USA and I'm very, very pleased with them. They can be set to any warning value you like and will remember peak values.

I know everyone thinks Defis are the 'cat's pyjamas' but, honestly, I just cant fault these gauges. They even 'self calibrate' everytime you start up!!

All 3 gauges for US$490 (about £300)

That oil pressure seems a bit high, probably due to the new build, but still on the high side for my liking..!

Oil temp will vary depending where you have the sender fitted. Fitted in the main gallery above cyl #3 will give a higher reading than when fitted to a sandwich plate between filter and sump..

My newage wrx, with sender fitted in main gallery, reads 90c fully warmed during driving 'normal' and so far I've never got it above 100c under any circumstances..

Motul 10w 40 every 5k/6mths..

Also, newage cars seem to run 5-10c higher than classics for some reason..

FWIW, pressure is 6-6.5bar cold tick over, 2.8bar warm/hot tick over and ~6.5bar as soon as I touch accelerator.

42k/4yrs old 340ish for last 20k and been running 1.5bar peak for most of it's life (except first 6k from new)..

Jasonius,
If your sender is reportedly in the hotter of the two places and you have never seen over 100c, you must drive like a fanny then!

Even with my old 2ltr engine (remember this is a Spec C, so has a proper oil cooler) I could see well over 100 whilst giving it proper stick (if I let it climb). The new Cossie engine runs slightly hotter than the old 2ltr did, but not by much.

When "giving it some" (trying to bed in the brakes ) up to 6.3k rpm the maximum it went was 101C. In town it sits around 90C or so.

Lol, I don't track it so sustained 'full bean' runs are limited on the road for obvious reasons..

I have no doubt it would get well over 100c on a sustained >90mph run, but again, I don't do many runs on the continent..

I guess I'm just too mechanically sympathetic..
