Smile To Buy or Not to buy? Advice please ...

Hi THere . I,m thinking of buying my first Scooby! I,m more than a little confused about imports , prices ,etc . I,m interested in a 98 WRX on E bay item 180263693534 . The ad says UK car , however a Daily Telegraph article on the web says all wrx,s are grey imports ? looking at more ads this does not seem to be the case ,Who,s right .? Any opinions appreciated re this car and its value . Cheers , Kip

Its a UK car, 2 things give this away just by looking, headlight washers (jdm cars dont have these) and S U B A R U on the back (jdm's dont have this either)

I can't see the car as access to ebay is blocked as i'm in work.

If it's a 98 and it's a WRX it's defo an import. The non import WRX 's didn't appear until the newage cars.

Looks UK to me.

The UK models have a lot less power, although you will get slightly cheaper insurance, but from that money saved you'll probably putting it towards getting the same power as jap wrx.

Thanks for all the info ,any ideas on the value of a standard very tidy 98 uk wrx with 75k and leather ,air con etc ? parkers etc don,t seem to value them much . Looking on e bay and piston heads prices seem to be from 2 .5-4k depending on the person listing it . Confused ?......Just a bit

Leather and aircon are both extra's, the ac was a 1k option, the leather i think (depends if the seats are recaro or not) 1-2k.
Wont add that much to the value of the car but nice to have in summer

I'd be interested to know what those 1 or 2 mods to make 300bhp from 215 would be and how much it'd cost.

You could get a 97/98 sti with 280bhp as standard for £4k all day long. Have uprated internals and in my opinion a better starting place if you want to mod the engine in future.

Well you would need a new turbo to start with, that MY97 runs a TD04 which is good for about 270bhp, then an ecu for it, basically you would have to start spending a fair bit of cash for 300bhp (injectors would probably be needed also for 300bhp), but to get upto 260ish is fairly cheap

Get a WRX Type RA, stronger engine with short ratio gearing they are seriously quick and come with intercooler water spray top speed is only 120mph ish but getting there is a blurr and your only looking at spendind 2.5k for a good one
