Default Confused About MOD's need some info!

hey there everybody,
posted a simalir topic few weeks back re mod on my turbo 2000 1997.
i am planning to fit a fmic,walbro 255 pump,440cc inejctors,uneuqual length racing headers,air filter(induction) all with a apexi power fc.
i was told i would require another turbo ifi wanted to see good power, now dats where i am lost, been looking for months for turbos.
some peps say td05,some say vf23-24.
i know a td05 maxs out on 350bhp and with standard internals i been told i shouldnt push due to car being 119k motorway miles.
speakin to my cousin he goes puting a turbo that will max out 350 puts presure if ur after bout 340-350 y not jus put a turbo that will max out on 400bhp but still run 340-350 or what ever your after, puts less presure on the turbo.

does anyone have any clue as to what turbo i should put on and that will cost a ncie price.

one last thing is i can get a turbo from a mk5 golf gti its laying about but would it be a mission to fit it on my 97 turo 2000.
its a kkk turbo somthing like that.

cheers everybody plz help!

AndyForrestPerformance

This is what he recommends and he does know a thing or 2 about tuning imprezas

Don't see any point in messing about with the turbo from the golf as there are plenty of specific ones avaliable for imprezas

id go vf35 then if u want quick spool and snappy drive, ive done the conversion on mine and you can have the car reliable and sitting comfortably at 330-340 bhp provided u have all the supporting mods and its mapped well

On an STi 3 with standard internals, I am running 371 bhp on a Scoobymania ST380 running 1.45 bar peak and reducing to1.25. This turbo spools well and represents real value for money.

go for the td05 with fmic as well you wont get more than 350bhp without the need to uprate engine internals and at 119k i would say it wont take too long for any weaknesses to come to light if there are any.
do you know what turbo is on the car at present?
even to get over 300bhp if its uk car is pretty good as you only run about 206 at standard

the turbo on my car at present is a td04,seems much much faster than 205 i been told dey come at 230 or somthing like that.
but anyways i was thinking to get a td05 and jus get it re-done and able to hack 400bhp maybs 16g or 20g but stil thinking though.

440 injectors will max out somehwere around 340 bhp without a good lift in fuel pressure. You might want to consider 550s.
The TD04 is a quick spooling turbo which can be pushed to somewhere between 265 - 295 bhp although some examples achieve a little beyond 300.
Standard your car would have been somewhere between 215 and 220 bhp approximately.
As already pointed out you should go for a front entry turbo and a VF23 or a VF34 or 35 would be a good choice as would be a front entry TD05.
Tubular headers at your power level will slug spool and coming from a TD04 that is the last thing you want. Ported headers and matched uppipe would be a far better option for you.

i dont think mileage is that big a concern provided its been well looked after and serviced with regular oil changes, as said before the VF35 is a nice converison on them and will give approx 100bhp power increase over standard and a healthy rise in torque provided u have all the supporting mods and its been mapped.
