The fuel pump on my Fiat Seicento Sporting is on the way out. Could anyone give me an honest opinion as to whether this is a job a total idiot (me) could do or will I have to shell out £100 in labour and VAT for the local mechanic to do it for me. I have a garage full of tools including some very large hammers.

my fuel pump went on my car, well thats what i thought it was at first, turned out to be my bloody alarm! but anyway i managed to get the fuel pump out to see if ti was working quite easy, just finding it id say is worth more effort. jus take out yours and put another one in. on the scooby it was a few bolts and electrical connector, dunno wat ur fiat will be like. when u get it out take it apart and check the seals, if theyre worn then get another one off ebay, cheap as chips. never know may be your alarm!! lol

The nipples on the fuel pump sender are notoriously weak. Be careful when you disconnect them.
De-pressurize the fuel system before you do anything, (just open the fuel filler) and maybe change the fuel filter aswell, as that might even be the problem. Its under the drivers real wheel arch. D
isconnect the fuel lines off the pump sender first though, as pulling the fuel filter about is what broke mine, twice!
