Default Do i buy a brand new ecu power fc or do i remap the standard ecu to get to 300 BHP?

I need some advice, again I hear you cry!! lol

I am wanting to get my99 uk turbo to 300bhp. I will be chaning the turbo from a td04 to td05 + de-cat down pipe, middle section + back box as well as changing the standard tmic to an sti8 version.

The current advice I have been given is to change the whole ecu to a power fc one. Then I looked at the price

i was told that the standard ecu on a uk turbo 2000 may become unreliable and the purchase of a new ecu would be preffered,

Can anyone shed soem light on experiences like this?

Thanks in advance

Who told you it would become unreliable after a remap? a tuner or a joe blog public?

Im not expert but ive never come accross anything to suggest this.

I would suggest sourcing a 2nd hand power fc but they dont seem to come up much for MY99/00 cars usually pre MY99 as the owners of later models seem to go for ECUTEK remaps.

Your car can be ecutek'd, it retains all the safety features, it just remaps the boost, fuelling and ignition settings. Stick with that for 300bhp

Apexi FCs are good for MY98 car or older as they overcome some of the early ecu limitations.

Thanks for that Andy.

@ S3TH - There is a company in kent call Perfect Touch who remap. they told me it would be more sensible to get a power fc. The guy didn't try and up sell my so I can't imagine he said it for any other reason apart from it being an good option.

Anyway, its good to hear opinons of Scoobynetters.

Thank you.

Never heard of this company, may be ok, but I would personally ask for recommendations from this website, as to who are the best mappers in the country for Ecutek, only a small handful really.

Ill start

Api-Pat Herborn
Bob Rawle
Jolly green monster- simon
Zen performance
Andy forrest
Powerstation
Scoobyclinic

There are others aswell

Andy

I've got an MY99 UK Impreza and I got 317.5bhp out of it without a remap.

FMIC, 3inch Scorpion turbo back system, K&N, VF22 and most importantly an Apexi AVCR.
run the Apexi at 1.2bar and your away.

Daily driver. No problems at all. Use cheap (ha ha) pump fuel and it hasn't missed a beat. And it gets cained regularly.
Change the oil every 3-4000 with Silkolene pro s and the scooby will be your bestest grin making friend!
