I have been listening to SN/ Others re the new ROAD TAX PRICE HIKES BASED ON GREEN BALLOCKS>


I'm thinking of keeping mine (2004) for basically ever, that way, if I don't buy a newer Scoob, I won't have to pay this rip off prices.

I accept that at some point the engine wll go.

Got 2 thoughts, either rebuild the original or get a new/recon engine.

Questions?

a) If I have the original 2 litre Turb rebuilt.

b) Have a new 2 Litre/ Recon.

c) Have a 2.5 Litre New/Recon engine put in.

To all the above, will I still have to pay the 2004 Road Tax Rates?? Or the new ones that everyone on here is going on about £400 a year *********?

What do you think??

The tax is purely for cars registered post 2006, so presumably you can stick any engine you like in an old car?

 

The rates are based on when the car was registered,so even though the ,
later cars have the same co ratings,they cop for the higher duty,change your engine to whatever you want and it would still stay at the lower duty rate

Offsetting £x000 engine rebuild against £190 extra tax

There are a few pre March 06 2.5 STi's which fall into the cheaper tax bracket BTW

 

£190 now........ who's to say what it will rise to in the future with this lot in charge lining their own pockets on expences

 

And how long will they let a few others slip through the net ? The current rulings will continue to be changed ensnaring more and more people at every budget.

 

Dont think it will be encompassing the earlier cars as by natural wastage they will be off the road sooner or later......... though very much later hopefully

I think you'll find that VED will pale into insignificance when compared to the future price of petrol. Virtually all analysts agree that oil extraction has reached a peak and yet demand is increasing rapidly. What oil remains will become increasingly expensive to extract. The combination of increasing demand and restricted supply means the price of oil is only going one way.

The Blueblaster prediction is for superunleaded to hit £1.20 before the end of the year.

I think u were done there mate, you should be in band F as your car was registered before band G was invented.

I've got a hawk eye WRX reg in early march 06 and that falls into band F too. If it was registered in late march it would have fallen into band G

 

what would the cost be on a 94-5?

 

type in your details on the dvla website and it gives the price, i tried with 1 off ebay (53 plate sti) and it came back with 12 months at £205

Checked up as to why i was charged £300 was told it was an error, it has now been corrected and i will not be out of pocket just goes to show if in doubt it pays to check things out, it is now £205.

 

oh lemme just clarify.... when i make more money to buy a better car because they r nicer.... i need to pay more now for road tax? and could b looking at £350 for a brand new subaru/evo/skyline/m3/ anything gud?

now if thats right (never had brand new car b4, not paid too much attention) then thats c.r.a.p. and yet again we have all be done over by the fecking gov.

id understand if the "road" tax was put back into the road... or even given to a just course ie "nhs" but we all know that that is not the case... so where the hell is the money going?????

I was reading about E85 bioethanol fuel, 100 - 105 ron, but I think there are numerous engine internals which would need replacing (and a major lack of filling stations) that make it just a dream!

 

I prefer older cars anyhow.. my other motor was built in 1980.. and I gurantee it will still be around for another 20 years at least.. may have a new chassis/engine/gearbox and body work in 20 years, but will be on the smae plate

 

Can't wait to renew mine in August, there is £400 down the toilet!! Ridiculous!!

Bloody stupid idea as most cars on the road are younger than 10 years old and a lot of the older ones are very well maintained. Removing a tiny percentage of cars will make bugger all difference to pollution and just be another irritant to the motorist.
