I am shocked, I've just drained out 8 1/2 pints of water from my boot; in the spare wheel well and the two corners of the boot.

I've been suffering from dampness in the bootlid, and the windows have been taking ages to clear for a while now. I researched Scoobynet and a few people seem to hae the same problem blaming leaky rear lights, which funny enough I recently changed for STi ones, and beng tight I didn't bother replacing the sealant, I didn't think it would matter that much.

How wrong was I!!!!!!

I took all my stereo equipment out and I couldn't beleive it. I've had a little water in car boots before but never that much. I actually had to use a sypom to get it all all.

Needless to say I've taken the lights off and use tons of sealant before replacing them.

I've learnt my lesson. Just got to hope that the sealant does its job, and that the lights were the problem in the first place.

 

Fingers crossed for you, it could also be the holes where the spoiler bolts on that are letting water in....!!

 

I had my06 sti back to the stealers last week cos the boot was leaking,they said it was the seal so replaced it.
It still leaks........

 

There's a few places water can, and does come in. Do a search and you'll see.....

theres also a bumper breather, a square hole with rubber flaps on it, water is leaked in that way too, i tested mine with a hose, and yup,in it came when i put the hose on the corner of the bumper near the rear light edge

 

Yeah, I had my bumper off today replacing it with a facelift version. I thought they could let water in, not too sure how you would stop it though.

I took them off to help drain the water out, and when I replace them I used sealant, but as for the hole I can only hope the flaps in the middle of them are doing their job.

I'm gonna have another look in a couple of weeks and see if all my hard work today was for nothing.

 

Anyone esle drained this amount of water out of their boot before?

Or am I just very special?

 

i took about a pint out today. mine just poped out as it was solid ice

 

Rather than syphon the water out, you should have just popped the rubber grommet out the bottom

 

I've not got a rubber gromet, I did look for one as my old Classic had one. But not this one.

And the corners don't had then either.

I was thinking of drilling a couple of holes in the very bottom of the spare wheel well, and the corners to help it drain out in future, but I'm not sure if thats a good idea???

 

It should'nt be happening full stop(on a 06 any way!!)

 

If you stopped p*ss*ng in the boot after you've had skinful, you wouldn't have the problem.

Anyway, hope you've dried it out completely before you refitted everything - and put some disinfectant blcoks in for next time!!

 

Rear lights leak on just about every classic because of the stupid design of the back end.

 

 

are you sure it wasnt a built in pool area?
