I am thinking of getting some extra security kit for my car and was wondering what you guys would recommend.

I currently have the following installed on my car:
Cat 1 Alarm and Immobiliser with anti-hijack
24hr Tracker Monitor
Disklok

Have any of you got 'supaglass' installed? Also, what about systems such as 'Autotazer' and smoke screens etc, is the tazer legal to use over here?

If any of you have got any suggestions or know of some really cool kit post away

Dont Toad do both secure film glass cover and the smoke generator??? give em a bell and what about a wheel clamp????

The autotazer is legal, as a friend of mine has just purchased one for his Caterham.

It certainly looks impressive when you trigger it, but with a bit of practice (oh, what things idle hands will try), you can hold onto it.

If you don't feel like being a masochist, then a nice thick pair of rubber gloves also renders it pretty much harmless.

Of course, I'm assuming you are talking about the version that looks a bit like one of the big maglights, with a clamp to fix to the steering wheel at one end.

If so, then I reckon you're probably better off with a DiskLok. This would certainly take longer to get off.

The other thing to question is whether security film works on frameless windows.

Your window glass can be bent out using a screwdriver...

Barrier deadlock strikes me as a good idea. Smoke screens are good, but once the local kids find out that they can make your car fill with smoke by twatting your windows with a pound coin (triggering the glass break which I hope you added ) then it could be a tedious few days...

 

A nice big ram post at the bottom of the drive works for me with a disk lock, cat 1 alarm and tracker.

 

Maybe a barrier deadlock, which locks your car into reverse. I've had one for about 8 months now, and think it's brilliant.

The installation costs about £200 or there abouts, and it also knocked off £100 my premium, as well as giving some peace of mind.

I rarely use the Disklok now, and only in what I consider dodgy areas.

cool ideas guys... I like the idea of the security film for the glass, have any of you tried those in-car security cameras, paging alarms (option on my current one) and the like?

 

I gave up the idea of security film, when I found out how expensive the stereo system I want is!!!

As for a paging device, would you potentially want to interupt a gang of car theives, who are 'tooled up'???

There are two ways to look at it. Do you want to car to stay where you've left it? or do you want to police to recover it after it's been stolen.

I think you have covered, there recovery of the vechical, so....

To keep it where it is, you can obviously go for more mechcanical devices, and maybe a smoke screen device, which would prevent a theif from seeing what they are doing!!

At the end of the day, if they want it bad enough they will take it, however secure it is. Just stick with the Cat 1 and trackers and you are covered - insurance wise.

Apart from the electric shock seats and flamethrowers but they aren't legal yet

Well it takes some doing, but this is a good idea (although you need a pretty lenient police force in your area) go to your local car audio shop and purchase one of those rather large ice capacitors (rated for about 200 AMPs and it's 12V how convenient)... Connect it to your battery and ground it to the inside of the door lock, connect the battery positive to the other terminal and another wire between both terminals on the cap. Then cut this wire and attach it to each door handle. You'll be able to tell if someone has touched your car in one of two ways:-
1. Dodgy looking person lying on the floor by your car slightly smoking
2. Rather large policeman taking you to the nick for a bit of a question and answer session.

...CRUDE BUT EFFECTIVE...

 

Get...

1) Untreated Wooden Doors
2) Lots of Rain

Put the 2 together & you have a garage door which is completely sealed between the posts & will need a tractor to pull assunder
