To sum up UK cars 208bhp-218bhp

Jap Cars 220bhp-280bhp

UK cars group 17 insurance (but tend to actually be higher)
Jap Cars group 20 (expect 20-40% dearer than uk car)

Servicing for all cars similar, UK dealers generally don't service jap cars... No bad thing, as specialists are much cheaper anyway

Servicing is every 7500 miles / 6 months.

Handling is great - but watch out for abused/badly tuned cars.

Jap cars can be 6000mls service because they often come with independant warrenties which usually dictate a 6000mls service to keep it valid.

WRX is the standard turbo model available in japan starting in 93 with 240 bhp (100 ron fuel) upto 280 bhp from 97 on most of these are have higher equipment spec than u.k cars. STI is a WRX which has been supposedly breathed on by subaru technica international ( their motorsport division, which offers a few performance tweaks. 22b was a 2 door, wide arch 2.2 ltr scooby which I think was for homoligation purposes. P1 was basically a STI v6 which has been sorted for the UK by Prodrive available in the u.k as a special edition. Your best bet is to have a drive of both uk and import cars and decide on the pro and cons of each.

regards

Cool

Pop along to a local meet and have a chat with the guys and gals, they will be happy to help and might take you for a spin.

If you are in the midlands come and join us we always have 20+ cars from 1995 to present day, Sports, 5dr, UK, WRX, STi, P1 and a 22B.

Thumbs up

MY stands for Model Year.

Therefore

MY98 is a 1998 car
MY00 is a 2000 car
MY01 is a bug eyed new shape 2001

Go for a MY98 or above if you can afford it as you get 16" wheels and a better interior as standard. MY99 get 4 pot brakes as standard and a new front end etc.

See
www.sidc.co.uk. FAQ.

It will have all your answers to your questions.

Cheers

Neal

I`m only looking at the mo, probably August till I make any decision.
I`m looking to pay around 8k which will probably get me a UK 1995ish unabused average mile example (hopefully)
Are you looking at a newer one??
You going to the meet on Sunday??

UK Cars

1994-2000 Badged - Turbo 2000 = 208-218bhp
2000-2001 P1 - 280bhp
2001- WRX = 218 bhp
1998? - WRX STI 22B (Type UK) - 280bhp (But wide and 2.2 so more torque)
2001- WRX STI - 265bhp
Jap Cars

As sidc really to some up
Early WRX's - 240bhp
1996 WRX's - 260bhp
1997 WRX's - 280bhp
Wagons often have less power

STI's
STI1 - 250bhp
STI2 - 272bhp
STI3-6 - 280bhp (type R's and RA's are the same power but shorter gears!)
WRX STI 22b - 280 bhp (as uk but shorter gearing)

The above is approximate and probably rubbish as I am looking for a skyline anyway

Jon

I assume you must be local-ish to Derby then?

There are plenty of meets go on in the midlands and plenty of people that will be able to offer advice/help from the area. I'll offer what help/advice I can, but as has been mentioned, it would probs be a good idea to pop along to a meet and see the many different types of Scoob there.

Good luck

The Nottingham crew (and some from beyond ) regularly meet down the Goose in Gamston for a bit of karaoke (wouldn't call it singing ) and a glass of coke Keep your eye out for meets in the midlands section.....
