Default Impreza Type r

Im thinking of getting the type r but i want to know a few things.

what are the major problems with these cars?engine, diff, gearbox? im looking at the v5-v6

and also what are the best mods to do to it, to make it more reliable and for more power? ive got a decent budget for the car and the mods so fire away.

cheers

Hey ive had mine for 2 months its a version4, no majour problems but try and get one with as much UK history as these were all imports, i was luckily enough to get one that has been in the uk since new.

The diff will make a juddering sensation when its locked up so dont be shocked. I personally wouldnt get one with mad mods already as it possibly could reflect on the way it has been driven.

Good luck

You shouldn't get any problems if its serviced regularly, and properly.

If you're modding (engine wise) don't skimp on things and get it remapped if doing decat etc.

Gearboxes can be crunchy and notchy though, 3/4 synchro is a common problem, very notchy but liveable.

Here's a good Type R - sensible mods etc:

as stated above, ensure it has been run on the correct fuel/octane booster or remapped for UK fuel.

not sure if you can import the ver 4-6 any more as they are not 10 years old but im sure someone will correct me lol but there are plenty of them in the country,as above, make sure its got history and get it hpi checked they can be a bit of a handful for someone not used to them lol
