Would they really pick you up on it? I can understand alloys and engine mods, but it's just an exhaust... Would they not pay out on a claim based purely on something like this?

It depends... why did you buy your backbox? Did it make the car sound better? Makes the car sound better and more attractive than standard ones to nasty theiving ....
I'm with Privilege, they told me that if it doesn't affect the bhp then they don't need to know. I've got a Subaru WR Sport backbox which I'm told doesn't change the output, but sounds nice!

I have had insurers tell me that there not bothered about alloys but should I make a claim they will only pay the value of OEM alloys... In my experience you have to put some effort in to find after market alloys that cost more then dealer supplied OEM ones.
nothing with mine, they asked why i was changing, told em i wanted stainless so it lasted longer, they asked if they give more power, so i said i had no idea as i was only intrested in it lasting longer, and they left it at that!
