What sort of power are you running and do you have much piston slap when cold?

I had them in my classic running @ 380BHP, they are abit noisy when cold, but fine when up to temperature.
Hope that helps.

to elimate the piston slap just run them to the minimum clearance in the bores

Not bothered upon start up. I shall run them at whatever my engineer thinks is best.

Mongo - I have the Mahle Powerpak pistons in my 2 litre - running 504bhp and 2 bar boost without a problem. So for your needs they will be fine.

They are a very good piston - minimal clearance - 1 thou clearance per inch diameter of piston. The Powerpak were recommended to me by Alyn at AS Performance as he builds rally car engines using them and they are running well year after year.

The Powerpak may be different to other Mahle pistons which need greater clearances and hence have piston slap on start-up.

Thats the sort of info that i'm after thanks mate.

I'll do some investigating as I have found someone who does them at a very reasonable price. Have you a contact for Alyn at AS?

Contact AS Performance

Tell him Terry Buckel suggested you call him. These Mahle Powerpak pistons really do work well on the 2 litre engines. My engine builder - Len at Subaru 4 You in Newbury, was very impressed with the finished result.

What else are you planning to uprate? As pistons alone won't give you a more reliable engine - mine wsa built using ACL race bearings, STI 7/8 crank and Lateral Performance H section rods.

I built it with the aim of being a future-proof engine - capable of over 500bhp - even though it was only going about 360 when it was built. In fact, mine is up for sale now, as I get a 2.33 litre built - as 504bhp is just not enough

PMSL I've been chatting to Len too. Top bloke

I'm going to go, forged pistons, arrow rods, v9 crank, ACL's, ARP fasteners. Going to go belt and braces. I've built too many engines where I wished I'd just spent a little more from the onset and got what I wanted.
