Default What Mods Next for the MY99

I have just had an Afterburner Vortex de-cat system fitted, and want to tinker with the car a bit more. I have been told to remove the air filter, and go with a HKS Racing Suction kit for the next bit of tinkering, I was going to ask anyone with any comments on what to do next to increase performance and BHP...i have about £1000 to spend on the car. I not sure what BHP the standard MY99 has but again with the exhaust at present it must be about 240 ish.

I wouldn't touch the Induction System unless you want an engine rebuild due to a knackered MAF .... and a new one having the life span of a gnat.

Spend the money on something sensible ....... like a holiday!

I agree I used to have a 99MY and the maf's are super sensitive. Go for a non sticky panel filter like a K&N or Green one to be on the safe side..

On my MY00 Uk turbo, it was running 230bhp before Tek 3 remap and 273bhp afterwards.

Ninja Sports Cat d/pipe
JR panel filter
Magnex centre decat
Magnex backbox
3 port boost solenoid.

So I would be very surprised if yours was running 240 at the mo - especially as you haven't changed d/pipe?

Have a look here for lots more info and pics, post #106:

At the moment with just the cat back exhaust & with your engine in good health, your looking at around 225bhp.

No cat back system is going to give you 25bhp !!

A panel filter isn't going to give gains either maybe 3/4 bhp but they last forever and give better flow - As said Induction kits on these cars is a They will just kill Maf after Maf.

The best way forward with your car is completely get rid of all cat's and run a straight through system from the turbo back. Headers give good gains, you can go unequal and keep the burble or go equal and loose the burble, but from experience see better gains especially torque.

After that I'd get it mapped - Again from experience I'd go Ecutek .

I reckon you'll see a genuine 270/280bhp with the mods.

I had similar set up on my My98 Uk Turbo and it produced those figures.
After that it had a Hybrid turbo and bigger Intercooler fitted a 3 port boost solenoid and another map tweak. It got just shy of 300BHP on Power stations RR.

Hope that helps mate..

My MY99 ran 240 bhp with just a scoobysport backbox. It depends on the rolling road, air temp, fuel etc.

if its a turbo 2000 then standard they are around 215,id say max with a de cat and panel filter at about 230,first id advise to do the brakes then get a chip,i think you'd be happy with that maybe around 260-265 bhp on a good engine

If you want 300bhp then you have to swap turbo, downpipe and remap.

I didn't swap turbo as most of my driving is around town so need early spool of td04.

I would go for vf23/24/28/35 or td04h (hybrid) from Andy Forrest.

I am more suprised than you at that figure!

Do a bit of research for PE rollers, and it appears that they are very optimistic and Powerstation if anything are pessimistic.

Hence try it another set of rollers for e.g. Powerstation and I am sure it will be nowhere near 251bhp.

I have a rolling road printout from when I bought the car, and it showed 215bhp - i.e. stock.

At that point it had magnex back-box and centre resonated decat.

Downpipe change, panel filter swap and @ PS 230bhp.

Remap 273bhp.

Who knows?? If it drives better then

However, how much more with a downpipe change and remap on standard turbo at PE - 320bhp???

StiX, what fuel were you using when you got 215bhp & then 230bhp ?

my99

Vortex BB
Vortex Centre decat.
Ninja Sports Cat

Vf 23 Turbo.

Made 254.9 bhp and 255 torque at the scoobyclinic.

Remap with a fuel pump should see me looking at 310 bhp.

I have a non-oiled induction kit, and its fine, i agree that its probably not filtering the air as well as if it was oiled, but hey ho. The reason induction kits kill afm's/amm's is the oil on them.

The other thing to know about induction kits is the fact it sucks in hot air from the engine, hense doesn't make it any faster. I have some decent cold air feeds for mine, but a divider would be better.
A good panel filter with extra cold air feeds, would give a benefit.

This was the spec of my old MY99 Turbo 2000 - It made 300bhp on powerstations rollers.

HYBRID TD04 TURBO ( ANDY FORREST )
ECOTEK 3 ECU
3 PORT BOOST VALVE
HYBRID INTERCOOLER
UPRATED FUEL PUMP
K&N PANEL FILTER
NGK PRF7B SPARK PLUGS
POWER ENGINEERING S/S EXHAUST T75 TWIN DUMP DOWN PIPE ( LAGGED )
POWER EBGINEERING S/S T75 HIGH FLOW CAT CENTRE SECTION
SCOOBYWORLD NINJA S/S BACKBOX
OBX EQUAL LENGTH HEADERS ( LAGGED )

Yours sounds very high bhp for De-Cat Centre Pipe & Afterburner Vortex Back Box.

I'd suggest that 250 is unlikely with those mods.

Best step for you (as said frequently above) is sports cat DP and then a good remap. Car will be significantly faster and more responsive.

215 was before I bought the car, so no idea.

230 was on Optimax (I think - not sure when it switched to VPower??), on the day of remapping - post #106:

That's interesting. Does this mean that Optimax/V Power doesn't make much differnce bhp-wise ? IIRC 5th gear reckoned 14bhp on an STi.

My Volvo T4 made over 260bhp on PE's rollers - official power was 200bhp and I only had backbox and K&N filter (a it was a Volvo for gardsake) - I think that this may suggest rollers are a itsy bitsy over optimistic

The best way to make your car go faster is to make it stop better! Invest in a decent brake setup and then do a driver training day to learn how to use it. I guarantee you'll be going faster! Also gives you more confidence to use the power that your car has.
