Hi folks,
i'm contemplating getting a front mounted intercooler for my MY01 JDM STI.

I've ordered a panel HKS filter, a complete Magnex 3" de-cat and a walbra 225 fuel pump.

I will then get it mapped. I've spoke to Richard (Powerstation) about it and he did the same for me on a similar car a year ago.

It made 332 BHP and around 297lbs torque, which i was happy with.

After the last remap it only made a few more BHP and abit more torque, although, no doubt it ran safer and was alot smoother.

I'm told the only real benefit for an FMIC is if i were to do track days, which i dont!

However, i have two questions,

1.Would a Front Mounted Intercooler, (Good one) make any more power than before for road use?

2. I've heard so much about various good mappers on here i'm now wondering if i should try another mapper? .

Any opinions appreciated.

1. Yes, but its not really worth the effort unless you want to go over 360bhp, which is the realistic limit (Personal experience).

2. Powerstation have a good reputation for safe and realistic mapping. THat reputation is shared by Litchfields. All cars react differently and your current map will be optimised for your car, producing what it can.
You have not told us what your mods are??, but 330/330-ish is the norm for Decat/filter/fuel pump& regulator/Three port solenoid.

If you have all that, then I would start looking at a your Turbo as the next thing to replace. A TD05 18g, would give you the extra you wanted for around the same sort of monet as a reasonable front mount. And its less obvious.

All MY opinion of course.

I have to use my car daily so 330/330 would suit me fine. And i can't argue Powerstation are the dogs!!

Are the decent mappers all around £600 all in?

I presume my JDM 2001 STI would have a 3 port solenoid, whats this fuel regulator malarcky though??

Had a good read like you said, thanks for pointing me in the right direction, (Never was much at map reading!!)
Seems as predicyed Rich at PS sure knows his ****!!!

 

You will probably get a power gain from an FMIC because of the lower charge temperatures when running high boost but the biggest reason for fitting an FMIC is to add safety to the engine by stabilising induction temperatures.

You will also get a benefit from an STi 8 scoop but you need to use the undertray as well.

 

Not sure I agree, if you use the Sti8 undertray it won't match to the earlier smaller IC and too much air will spill round the sides, of course if you have the STi8 TMIC then you need the same undertray whether you have a larger scoop or not!
