It's of no benefit if the ECU's mapping can't make use of it. So bear that in mind that plonking in in the tank of a car thats not mapped for it will have negliable effect (unless it has some malfunction - which should be addressed )

Power may even drop if the ignition timing cannot advance far enough to compensate for a slower burning fuel.

Depending on the additive package (with attention payed to components that do not burn, but prevent detonation), the actual calorific value of the fuel may indeed be lower, in lamens you get less bang per litre. So you need to inject more to attain the same output (unless detonation causes the ignition timing to be less than ideal on a lower octane fuel..causing unburnt fuel to pass out the exhaust ).

Its not all about RON, Ron. So get the car mapped for 102 Ron before plonking it in your tank *****-nilly, otherwise you are just wasting your money

That is a lot of money for a fuel your car will need to be mapped to. I suppose it could work on newage cars where you can have two maps and a button to press to change between them.

Still, it takes a little while to flush a tank completely of old fuel. I dunno, I just don't see it selling that well if cars cannot automatically make use of it by some means.

 

Here comes the old boy with a tale of yesteryear - I remember using Shell Super 5-star 101 octane at 5 shillings a gallon in my Rover 2000 TC back in the late '60's (5s, that's 25p in metric money!)

fekin fuel is enough of a rip off at 90 whatever a litre without this rubbish
