I need a re-build as the Type R has gone bang so i'm gutted to say the least. I was thinking of sending it to API for this
so has anyone on here had a engine re-build by these and if so is it any good and what did it cost you
all replies welcome

 

Its where I'd take mine to if it did go (touch wood)

 

Api quoted me:
£2400 for the rebuild (inc uprated pistons)
£550 to remove and refit
£130 to collect the car from kent

All that plus the dreaded, so around £3500. 6 months warrenty I believe.
They do have a good rep, however, it does pay to shop around.

Never hurts to shop around though.

Just remember: cheaper does not mean better!

Get the job done right by experts, pay once!

 

ditto the above. try jase at scoobybits, he does a good rebuild at a competitive price. did a rebuild recently for a blue terzo.

Got my re-build done by scoobyclinic 3 month ago with no problems at all, I highly recomend these guys wont go to anyone else.

 

Just had mine done at API as they were the only ones that quoted me the price and said whatever they find the price would be the same (give or take replacing damaged hoses etc), the rest were more like "we'll let you know how much when we've got the engine stripped" (ie a point of no return).

David also offered decent mods to get my standard UK to 330/320 for around £4000 so I went for it. He also talked me out of a few unnecessary extras I was going to have as the weren't needed on a car of my spec, costing API money but saving me money - can't say fairer than that!

My TD04 was left on for running in (I had a TD05 waiting in the wings) but that let go 300 miles into running in so they put the TD05 on for me and to save me the £150 for a run in map for 600-800 miles they disconnected the wastegate so I now have a 2L n/a scoob but after running in and a remap I will have 330/320, gonna be a bit different

David and Nathan are super helpful too.

My recommendation goes to API

 

I recently had mine done by them and am very pleased with it. I just went for a full rebuild and a new clutch and all together with labour and collection and vat it came to £3100.
After 1000 miles its going back for an oil change and after that still 500 miles of running in to do, unfortunately i've only done 700 miles thus far

Yep nice one, scoobyclinic also dissconnected my wastegate for running in from the word go and limited the revs to 4000rpm for 1000miles, looks like we got good advise.

12 month warranty on parts supplied and machining done.
Use the change for a remap.

Kip, for starters what build are you looking at going for?? standard one again, or a forged jobbie with a nice new turbo etc?? if so don`t forget you`ll need a nice box that will cope with the extra torque etc/ diff will need attension too.

Anyway, i would recommend API 100%, They`ve just done my RA, mapped/ suspension, etc etc and made a fantastic job. David is a very genuine chap, he won`t fob you off at all, and Nathan and co are very good at there jobs too. It`s up to you who you choose Kip, like people have said have a ring round then just go with your heart.

 

I think you do get some quotes and talk to people on the phone and go with the one who you best have an affinity with as it makes communication so much easier and minimises hassle.

Pleanty have gravitated to API for this reason (inc me) as David seems on my 'wavelength'. I have the same connection with PowerStation and a few others.

Find a specialist and stick with them!
