Default Where should I go next with my car?

Basically Ive only just bought an 02 wrx in mint condition with only 45k on the clock. Its got ecutek3 and group n full exhaust sytem etc etc.

I've just been down to a local tuners where a mate works and im thinkin I want an STi!

I had a chat with a couple of the guys down there about messing with the car a lil. He has suggested a few engine changes to get it up to STi spec. Where they reckon I could look at 340bhp with a front mounted intercooler.

I wanna know where I should go from here?

Is it worth the expense? Or should I just wait for a few years when the insurance is reasonable on an STi?

Cheers in advance

I'd do the following

TD05 16G front entry turbo
STi pink injectors
Better fuel pump
STi Top mount

Then re-map.... Should get 320 BHP

Plenty of the above available second hand LOL

Seriously......make a decision about where you want to go with the car. I made the mistake ploughing thousands in to my UK Classic and in hindsight wish I'd have started with an STi. Then again I had plenty of fun.

As RLE says there's always people changing bits on their cars I've had 3 different turbo's on mine LOL

Stick with the WRX for now as it's probably cheaper to mod to 300 odd BHP than change to and STi !! You have to remember that a few years ago 300 BHP was fantastic I have a 400 BHP Bugeye and it's nothing special anymore !!

So lots of people ditching their 300 BHP kit for more power !! with the bits going on sale

AFAIK the TD05 equivalent is the IHI VF35 series from the newage STi's so keep an eye out on the for sale section here, on SIDC and on the local scooby websites

Newage STi intercoolers also come up quite regularly as people fit front mounts ...

Cheers

Should I do the injectors and turbo at the same time.
I already have the sti top mount. So is it worth going for a front mount jobbie?

Had a girl in a sporty clio almost keep up with me on the way home from work this evening so i've gotta do something soon!

I'd suggest you need to judge realistically how far you want to go. If you want more than the 320-340bhp ballpark, you'll probably find the WRX gearbox/drivetrain will struggle to keep intact.

Therefore if you think you're going to want 400bhp plus, it might be cheaper to start with an sTi where the gearbox etc is a lot tougher, not to mention stronger engine internals, better handling, better brakes etc etc.

Upgrading as many people have found can be a slippery slope, you just keep spending money! Personally I've got my WRX to the 280bhp ish region and am happy to stay there as a reliable daily driver with early spool up and little lag. Several people have upgraded to ballistic power outputs and found the much more turbo lag / later spool up means the car is not much faster and a lot less pleasant to drive in a lot of road use situations - although the car will be a fair bit quicker on the track.

The other thing that's worth doing is some minor suspension and brake mods, probably before searching for extra power. The handling responds very well to e.g. some Eibach springs, uprated rear ARB and geometry set-up - doesn't cost the earth and makes it a lot nicer to drive. Similarly at the very least upgrade your brake discs and pads and put in braided hoses and decent fluid.

Yeah i know what your saying. I've gotta decide where I want to go and how much im willing to spend. I think that as it is, ive got a very good daily driver with what feels like a nice power curve.

Maybe get the STi in a couple of years.
What sort of performance is an STi at once its been ppp'd?
But I think i'd like to get 300bhp as a target.

Oh and if you want to know what i've done so far then you can look at my scooby <<<<<< and then tell me where I should toughen the scooby up?

Thanks people

Yeah I was hoping to pick up some decent mudflaps at Japfest. Couldn't find any though.

Can you suggest some? And from where?
Call me stupid but where are the STi stickers on me car?

And dont worry the dude in the back has been got rid of. The car is now 13 stone lighter!
