Default Is my router Dead/Dying ?

Netgear DG834G

The wireless signal dropped off last week so I rebooted it and nothing. Saved my config and reset factory standard then reset my config(all was well). The next morning the pc lost web connection and a reboot sorted it

Everything has been ok until today my PC (hardwired) seems to drop the connection to the router so the web connection is down , rebooting the pc fixed the no web problem.

wireless is ok and the xbox can still connect to live ? (think it's a little slow)

Bittorrent gave a fault of lost the upnp connection to the router ip ?

Any ideas ?

It's a Netgear. What else can I say. Have you tried a Firmware upgrade?

Possibly a dry solder joint on the board somewhere causing a dodgy connection. You think that's weird. What about a PC thats got no network card causing my brand new router to loose it's ADSL connection. And yes it's the PC. So there are weirder things that can happen.

A lot of the Netgear stuff tends to overheat, so as the house gets warmer, the problems get worse. The later firmwares seem to sort this, so I'd agree with the firmware upgrade.

upgraded the firmware so I'll see how it does now. Net speed went from 4meg to 5meg ? after the firmware change.

Cheers

Nearly forgot - do you run it on its side or flat? If you run it flat, some people reckon it doesn't overheat as much standing on the side stands.

interesting mine does that occasionally. when it doesnt auto reconnect, rebooting sorts it. so you installed 4.01.20 and all is ok?

latest for my version was V3.01.31. seems to be ok at the moment.

I run it flat so I'll try on it's side now , the underside is very hot.

Craig.
