Question

Browsing through Top Marques last night, I am increasingly suprised by the sheer quantity of 'just 1000 limited edition' P1s for sale. I did not plan to sell mine any time soon, but am developing paranoia that the sellers know something I don't...ie the 22b replacement etc. Can we really expect the value to plummet dramatically in the near future?

Cool

perhaps they are all changing to the new shape STi?

IMHO most people that buy new cars change them frequently so most that bought the P1 are changing them at a similar time just because they would anyway what ever car it was?

Personnally I keep a car until I am bored with it...

Current Scooby nearly a year and not even nearly bored.

ho ho JGM

As well as previous suggestions, possibly, with the current climate of job insecurity and redundancies, many people can't justify such an expensive luxury sitting on their drive.

Nuff said really, what's limited about a car that didn't sell well to begin with and is now freely available with no searching required

I'll get my flame proof suit on

Yex - RB5WR and happy with it

There were only 156 RB5 WR's, the other 288 were the non prodrive version. Therefore we are even more unique.

Yex - one thing though - you talk as if you don't even like the P1. Agreed, it was expensive when new, but they are great cars you know. Just because there are 900+ left out there doesn't mean they are in any way inferior to RB5 or 22b. Simply different variations on the same theme. My issue is more that percentage wise of total produced, there seem to be an awful lot for sale at the mo.

Personally, I think the £15k P1 will happen Q2/Q3 next year. Tileys in Bristol have a 49k one at £19995. And there are couple of lower mileage ones at in Autotrader/Topmarques £21K. Now I know a lot of people won't want to sell their P1's at that price, but if official dealers are selling cars for under £20k then they probably paid £17k-£18k. Values will only be reduced as more high higher mileage examples become available.

Also if people are advertising cars for £21k then the chances are they have only been offered £19k by the dealer. I know this isn't good news, but to the motor trade the P1 is not good news. An old shape and overpriced car. Its a shame really because they are great cars, but the fact that the new shape equivalent can be had from £23k certainly makes people (and the trade) reluctant to pay much for an old shape car.

Anyway, Its just my opinion, values may firm up, but personally I think it is unlikely.

I should probably add that I am constantly amazed with RB5 values, but then the RB5 was very well received by the trade and only limited numbers were made, unlike the P1 which was dearer and later than expected I don't think it helped matters that the 1st batch of P1's were all sold prior to drop in impreza residuals - I know of several people who cancelled their orders when this happened.

The second batch was produced because deposits were taken ages before the cars arrived, and IM thought it would be easy to sell more... Then impreza values dropped and people realised a new model was due, and hence they are still selling 'Ex demo' P1's now.

I think 15k is a bit excessive - if values dip that low then the rest of the scooby world are also in trouble. Let's be positive and assume the economy is going to pick up. I didn't buy a scooby to lose huge money - I would have stayed with Lotus if I wanted that! Now where was the article on that new electric car.....

There were only 156 RB5 WR's,
Maximum of 155 left now

As for values they seem to have come down quite a bit recently (ie in the last 6 weeks) - probably due to the price of the new STi.
