Default Speed Cameras Are Dangerous Because??

Evening All.

I was driving through a village today that had a 30mph speed camera.

There was a car at a junction about 20-30 yards away, she stopped looked at me then the other way, as I was nearly on her ( in a driving sense) she pulled out!!

I braked and, couldn't beleive what had happened???

To me, the theory is, if they look as though they are driving slow, I will pull out.#

Why didn't she pull out ( if she had to) when I was further away??

This got me to thinking ( dangerous on a Saturday night).

Incidents like this have happened before.

Has anyone had anyting like this happen to them???

And????

Can you think of stuff like this that, you feel, Speed Cameras are dangerous and, why??

THanks.

Kind regards

Alan MaC

Sounds like one of the 'look once, pull out' brigade.

There seem to be a few of these around - tend to notice them most often pulling onto roudabouts. They take one glance at the traffic to see how far away it is, then pull out.

I was always taught to look twice - the first look, to see how far away the traffic is, the second look not only confirms that the traffic is still a safe distance away, but also allows you to judge the speed. For example, if the time it takes to take a second look, the traffic has halved it's distance between you, then there is every chance that if you move, you will collide!!

There seem to be a lot of people who take a single glance at the road and assume everything they see will be travelling at their speed.

Around here there is a B rd that was a 60 up until last year with no history of accidents. Then the council in there wisdom allowed a farm to set up a Day nursery on a dodgy corner. 12 accidents and 1 death later from RunMums pulling out without looking (all T bones), they dropped it to a 40 with camera. 5 more accidents and they dropped it to 30. Still an average of 1 accident a month.
Ever get the feeling that the pull out with your eyes closed effect was in place here.
Speed was never an issue in these cases.

Default Ye

Just read the first post an basically it dosent have owt to do with speed cameras! Its all to do with not paying attention mainly on her part cause she didnt look but as you saw her you should have expected her to do the unexpected. Granted you missed her by braking hard but if you always go by the adage of they haavent seen me so I will prepare for the worst then it airs on the side of safety, this is what they teach when you ride a motorbike and I must admit I always use this method.
On the other side of the scale ye did miss her so you live to drive and take this as a headsup for improving your look ahead vision

Hello V7C,

Not saying that. What I am saying is, with hand on heart.

We all go a little/lot over the limit, we are all different, some more some less, like life I suppose.

2 things really, if the speed camera wasn't there, we may go a little quicker and, they wouldn't pull out.

As they know the camera is there, they will take a chance that they may not have done cos of the camera.

Second point is, probably nearer the truth, and it has been mentioned in previous replys to this post, this "Blind To Everyting Attitude."

I saw her look at me the first time, the second, when she pulled out, we had definite eye contact, it was that close!

I have to say that, since the Motorway Patrols have been replaced by Greed Cameras, standards have slipped, no deterrant any more.

Hope this makes sense?

Regards
